  • Nice! Most of the shared hosting I've seen in AU is based out of OVH in Sydney, but you offer premium Melbourne on trewq's insanely fine tuned network.

Anyone taking this would see an instant performance improvement in my experience. The truth is the only shared hosting I have in AU is from @SmallWeb already so I can't really beat that.

I wish you all the best with this @SmallWeb and I look forward to seeing what deals can be done here

This intrigued the copy-editor in me, so I decided subject that page to the test of my six years of news reporting and editing hell under the personal supervision of the former executive editor of the largest daily in Florida. The parts below should be amended and I explain why. I will stick to UK English for spelling.

SmallWeb will match your previous web hosting plans price when you switch - and give you an additional 10% off.

You used a hyphen instead of a dash. Hyphens are typically used to join two or more words together to collectively function as one unit, e.g. good-for-nothing husband.

Register for an account with SmallWeb through our client area.

    The preposition "for" is unnecessary.

Your previous service must not be part of a one time discounted plan.

Hyphen required between the words "one" and "time". Explanation given above.

Your previous service must be of similar specification to the service you want.

The KISS principle: "Your previous service must be similar to the service you want."

You can contact us through LiveChat, Email or via Client Support Ticket.

    Unnecessary capitalisation hinders reading.

SmallWeb accepts Debit and Credit Card payments through PayPal and United Kingdom Bank Transfers.

    Unnecessary capitalisation again.

Yes, Dedicated IP's are available at a cost of £2.00 per month or £24.00 per year.

First issue: unnecessary capitalization. Next issue: the plural form should be "IPs". The apostrophe changes the noun to a possessive form instead of a plural form.

Lastly, I have left out quite a number of issues that are mostly comma-related because I think I can live with them.

    Pedants aplenty in newsrooms.

The funny thing, though, is that many people actually think their English is excellent and find it fitting to teach me a thing or two. I recently had a journal paper returned with some comments about the English and guess what? Those comments contain grammatical mistakes that the reviewer didn't realize.

Dunning-Kruger effect is more common than we think.

Done-diddily done. Thanks for helping me add consistency.

Edit: If you want to settle a debate with me.. "Email" or "E-mail"?

I absolutely abhor switching between the language of the Queen and the language of the rebels. In my defense, English in academia has mostly been corrupted by the language of the rebels, so I unconsciously slipped into their foul vernacular when discussing a topic related to academia. Forgive me, mi lord.

Actually, the debate between the spelling of email and e-mail ain't half as controversial as the debate on whether the word is a noun or verb.

A lot of people are fucked by the Oxford comma because they didn't give a fuck. Ask JFK and Stalin.

That, however, is not correct, and you know it. Why did you place a comma after Stalin? Just respect, I suppose.

You are right. I made a mistake there, although I qualify that it is an honest mistake due to force of habit.

I removed the Oxford comma originally as a demonstration but copy-editing is so ingrained that I apparently self-corrected unconsciously by setting off the words "JFK and Stalin" with a pair of commas to illustrate that without the Oxford comma, JFK and Stalin become a compound modifier that describes the strippers. In doing so, I messed up the original grammatical structure; if the Oxford comma is inserted as a correction, the other comma to set off the compound modifier is incorrect and needs to be removed. This paradox became apparent after my brains were re-wired with your comment.

A better phrasing that will never run into this problem is: "... unless you would like to have at your party the strippers, JFK and Stalin."

I don't know if I should be happy or sad that the copy-editor in me haunts me everywhere, even when I deliberately attempt a mistake for illustration purposes. Grrr.. pardon me while I take a moment to self-flagellate for that bit of tardiness.

Dear Michael what are the CloudLinux resource limits on those reseller plans?

Hello there, for the locations with CloudLinux (London and Melbourne) limits between 10Mb/s - 20Mb/s I/O, 1-2GB RAM, 25% CPU, 20 EP.

I'm glad to see this thread turn into a linguistical debate. Some unfortunate events occured yesterday and I would like to focus more of my efforts and attention on increasing the quality of what I offer and implementing sufficient contingency planning. As part of this, I think I will be temporarily pausing my regularly scheduled shit posting and taking some time away to correctly build a business. I can't say I won't U turn and be back next week but less than one year in to my company now is the time to set it up to be a reliable service for years to come.

I'm very thankful for the tremendous support I've received from customers and friends over the past 24 hours.

Some notes before I hop off..

    • The reseller has changed so you now select a location as a configurable option. This isn't functional in Blesta, so provisioning is manual.

    • I recently started limiting the £3 shared plan to 1 domain name and this has now been reverted back to 5 domain names.

    • All 2GB shared hosting accounts now have unlimited domains and unmetered (fair usage) bandwidth assigned to them.

I will be active at the "SmallWebHost" Twitter account for company related announcements, I don't typically post rants.

    See you soon friends :)

Hey friends. I checked stock earlier and there are only five of the email plans available (DirectAdmin, 5GB, CrossBox, RainLoop & RoundCube). It's through a MXroute reseller promo so I do not know about expansion going forward, might have to set a new plan up with reevaluated pricing. However.. here's 25% off with code "FEB25". (25% off £9.99/year). ?
