so, the control panel allows for a choice of 'Virtuozzo instance' vs 'empty KVM instance' - which indeed I'd interpret as Virtuozzo rather being just OVZ...
for the empty KVM instance you have to pick, what you want to install, but provide your own ISO anyways. maybe that's just for the optics ... or maybe they place you on a certain node, depending on what you pick, no clue.
the rest of the install is a bit more complicated, as one needs to upload an ISO of your choice via FTP but name it specifically so it gets picked up during reboot. the rest is handled via VNC but lacks a noVNC console. also there is a DHCP server running but gives you only an internal IP which does not have public internet, so also a bit of manual steps involved.
once I am finished, I'll obviously run another yabs to see what this will then provide. expect it to be quite different, because most likely a completely different node and probably different settings/limits and/or hardware... let's see.

didn't expect that. very snappy and for now numbers seem even better than what the virtuozzo/ovz instance offered. if it stays that way that's a keeper even for 5€ a month... location is Frankfurt, afaik they are running their own DC there.

1blu.de is a long existing german provider, contracts! SEPA only? verification call to a german call center...
most likely not really interesting to non-german customers. still I wanted to try them for a long time. right now this above is on offer for 12€ first year and even the regular pricing of 4,99€ per month (incl. german VAT) is quite attractive for the given specs.

yeah, that's the thing, its' sold as KVM - however ploop and venet are kinda relicts back when virtuozzo was based on OVZ. not sure how this actually acts today.
I'll dig a bit deeper into it later, just haven't found the time yet to check more closely if f.i. windows install is possible. at least on their page it mentions KVM, 'own OS choice' and such...
seems they have some old german habits though, had to call in to verify on the order, also heard they require a pdf form to be filled for cancelation, PTR only through support request and such.
will find out sooner or later anyway and report back ;-)
i guess the most obvious sign would be checking kernel and possibility of upgrading it..virtuozzo claims to have 200+ upgrades over standard KVM

yeah indeed /boot is empty, dpkg doesn't list any kernel related packages, uname -a gives:
as said, I'll have to check later, what options there are in the panel and what happens when I want/request to install from my own ISO etc. ;-)

so, the control panel allows for a choice of 'Virtuozzo instance' vs 'empty KVM instance' - which indeed I'd interpret as Virtuozzo rather being just OVZ...
for the empty KVM instance you have to pick, what you want to install, but provide your own ISO anyways. maybe that's just for the optics ... or maybe they place you on a certain node, depending on what you pick, no clue.
the rest of the install is a bit more complicated, as one needs to upload an ISO of your choice via FTP but name it specifically so it gets picked up during reboot. the rest is handled via VNC but lacks a noVNC console. also there is a DHCP server running but gives you only an internal IP which does not have public internet, so also a bit of manual steps involved.
once I am finished, I'll obviously run another yabs to see what this will then provide. expect it to be quite different, because most likely a completely different node and probably different settings/limits and/or hardware... let's see.

didn't expect that. very snappy and for now numbers seem even better than what the virtuozzo/ovz instance offered. if it stays that way that's a keeper even for 5€ a month... location is Frankfurt, afaik they are running their own DC there.
