Anyone used DirectSlave? any alternative?
Hello,
As the title says has anyone used DirectSlave for Directadmin DNS cluster. Can it be used with more than one DA Master Servers?
also if you know any good alternative to it, will be nice
Regards,
Abdullah

DirectSlave can be used with multiple masters & to best of my knowledge there is no restriction on number of servers. But if you want to be stress free, I recommend using a DirectAdmin license for this purpose. DirectAdmin personal license which costs $24 per year allows unlimited domains for the purpose of DNS clustering. I also recommend not running the cluser on same physical node where you host your own customers in order to have some redundancy. I am using a VPS with personal license & a VPS from Inception Hosting in UK with free DA for this purpose
I see several other providers using 1 of the following options for DNS clustering in order to keep the costs low:
1) DirectAdmin personal license
2) VPS from BuyVM, Inception Hosting, IntoVPS or other providers who provide DA for free or at a nominal cost
Instead of wasting money on a 3rd party software, get a vps with us. Directadmin Personal license included for no additional cost . Perfect for that cluster setup.

@Shoaib_A Thanks for sharing your experience Shoaib, so seems I will go with DA+vps then!
Looking at those premium offerings by Inception, NB & BuyVM.
Best Regards.

I'm with antirez(redis) on this one. It's extremely bad taste to name new projects/objects in 2020 with this terminology.
At the same time, forcing expensive refactors of long-existing code bases is some eyeroll-inducing virtue signalling. I will be very pissed if major bugs result from some edge case that breaks.
When I say any vps plan, I mean any of our standard plans including the ever so popular 0.5G . Come thru fam.

yea, DA recommends 1GB ram, though my fresh install uses only about 100MB. I am going to try that.

Install with 2GB swap . DA dns only setup barely uses 200M RAM at any given time

Yeah, honestly my only RAM issues have been for PHP compiling.

Yeap. Which is why the swap fix helps.

Don’t bother with DirectSlave, just go with a small VPS and free DA licence much less hassle. I have 3 DA DNS servers with Francisco all using 512MB VPS. They tick over at about 200MB. As @seriesn said install with 2GB Swap and you will be fine.
