edited April 2022 in Help

The title says almost everything, I need a recommendation for Cloud or VPS servers that have good latency for Europe/Latin America.
Preferably on the East coast.

The disk needs to be SSD/NVMe and contain at least 100gb (upgradable).
1 ipv4
2g ram 1vcore
Traffic (upload) 2tb/month
ddos protection if possible

Budget: up to US$50/month.

HostDime Miami would be $58/m for 2 vCPU, 2GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, 10TB BW. Vultr is in Miami and is probably a reliable option and much more affordable..

My experience with HostDime was terrible, definitely discarded. Vultr never used, I will check.
Do you have any feedback with the new Hetzner USA clouds?

  • How about Canada (LunaNode)?

  • @servarica_hani is in Canada, not sure about DDoS protection but their network has absolutely fantastic reach to the EU. Really solid performer. I'm sure they'd be happy to get you set up with something.

no, I setup one briefly to install/test a panel, but didn't use it more than a few hours so I couldn't comment on Hetzner cloud.

  • If you want to balance out Europe and LATAM latency, Miami (Florida) is probably your best option.
Since you already mentioned Hetzner, the other major contender is probably https://my.frantech.ca/cart.php?a=add&pid=1504

That being said, it seems that the further north you go, the cheaper it gets...
Apart from already mentioned Hetzner, if your budget is up to 50 USD/mo., you actually even may get a dedi: (Virginia) there's also https://www.kimsufi.com/us/en/servers.xml (Canada) and https://www.reliablesite.net/dedicated-servers/new-york-dedicated-servers.aspx (they also have Miami available, but unfortunately, all plans are above 50 USD/mo.)

Upcloud shows they could offer 100% uptime SLA.

Similarly, Linode could offer almost the same experience.

Canada's latency is very high for Latin America, around 150ms for São Paulo Brazil.
While Miami/Tampa providers, east side get an average of 100ms - 50% less latency while still maintaining good routes to Europe.

  • HiVelocity has one of the best connections to LATAM. They even have routes through telefonica.
If I recall correctly they have a sub brand that provides VPS services called: speedykvm.com , in the footer says "a hivelocity company".

Make sure to choose TAMPA FL.

Perhaps you could try using https://buyvmstock.xyz/ or https://buyvmstock.com/ ?

Alternatively, 2 other cheap options (unfortunately, without DDoS protection, AFAIK):
    NY: https://hosthatch.com/ssd-vps
Atlanta/Dallas (latency to LATAM better than NY, but worse than Florida; LATAM-wise, Atlanta>Dallas): https://billing.virmach.com/index.php?rp=/store/cloud-computing-linux-vps-kvm

If you have a such enough budget, pick from one of the large cloud hosting companies.

Talking about him - where is he? Haven't seen him lurking around in ages. Hope all is well with him and NB

  • Vultr is not HA, neither is DO.
HA setup can surely mitigate some issues, however, if the entire setup/cluster goes blub, your SLA does not matter much.

If you pick a solid provider, you likely getting away cheaper, then paying for a HA VPS.
And if you really, really need a HA VPS, then I would suggest, you plan yourself a bit more than just buying a single HA VPS.
