I am initiating a discussion on CDNs for WordPress.

Main types I have tried/ used so far include:

Scripts (js and css)

Images

Videos

Audio

What are the typical CDNs you use/ have used? Please classify under Free/ Freemium/ Freemium, also the primaty use case. Would be great to create a list as a resource to the community. The info can be in the following format:

Name of CDN --> Type (Free/Freemium...) ---> Primary use case ---> Your experience /short review.

For example, I use Shortpixel for image compression. optimization and Shortpixel Adaptive Image for image delivery. Both offer a freemium model.

Shortpixel --> Freemium --> Image compression or optimization --> My review: This wordpress plugin is my facvourite for reducing size of images. If you look around for a deal, you may get upto 25,000 credits for around 10 or 12 US dollars, enough for most sites. Do you need this at all? For image compression - not really, There are Cli tools available for Mac and Windows (jpegoptim, optipng...) that to the job. But for the beginner/ eeryday used, much recommended. Linky link: https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortpixel-image-optimiser/)

p.s: using the wrong settings for CDN OR tinkering around too much with the settings can result in a broken site. My blog is a classic example of it!

Cloudflare Pro offers the same DSoS protection as the free plan (some argue that QoS is higher with Cloudflare Pro, whatever). The added value would be their Web Application Firewall, their Polish image optimization service, and some alleged optimization for mobile.

In other words, $20.00/month bring the WAF, and an "intelligent CDN" that optimizes pictures, and more page rules.

Is anyone using it, and would you say that it is worth it compared to dealing with these issues separately (e.g., ShortPixel on a CDN for pictures, a WAF somewhere, etc.).

A few days ago I wrote a long-ish post about Content Delivery Networks. I am definitely not a technical writer, and decided to write about a topic I knew very little about till recently. The post ended up becoming much more comprehensive than I anticipated; at nearly 3,700 words. I am am posting the link to that article in this forum, knowing that I will get some good feedback and some brickbats (both welcome) to make the post better. Have I missed any obvious names? Are there any other sources or resources that will make this post more useful to the readers?

Here's the link
How to Use CDN or Content Delivery Networks for Website Speed

Summary:
In my post, I write about using content delivery network or CDN for delivery of different types of content:

a. images (e.g.files from Flickr) that you can display on your website,

b. Videos (e.g.embedding a YouTube video) on your blog,

c. Audio (e.g. Podcast episodes)

d. Other files,scripts, or text.

This post is not a review, but more like an introduction to the un-initiated. You may find some familiar names in the post, and some lesser known ones.

Thanks to @seriesn for the egging.

p.p.s: For the curious: This site is hosted on SmallWeb Singapore, CMS is Bludit.

Hosting static (or mostly static) sites, a CDN/proxy like Cloudflare, as I understand it, could be beneficial by:

Reducing load/traffic to web server

Improving performance and latency by caching and serving from endpoints closer geographically to many users (and probably better HW/network)

Improve security by obscuring real IP, providing protection against possible DDoS

(Correct me if I'm wrong or miss vital arguments/points. I did read https://talk.lowendspirit.com/discussion/917/long-ish-post-on-content-delivery-networks-or-cdn/p1 , but maybe I skimmed through a bit too quickly.)

Seems to me Cloudflare's free offering is pretty hard to beat. So what would be good reasons for not choosing CF?
The reason I can think of is: They're BIG and own half the Internet (and I kinda like small providers), but still they don't appear to be evil ...

Other free/cheap options I really should consider?

I've seen BunnyCDN mentioned here, I don't think it's free, but what would be main benefits of these, or other paid options, compared to Cloudflare?
(I know there's paid CF services, but I think I'd be good with the free, at least for now.)

I've hosted quite a few sites without any CDN, but I'm eager to learn a bit more in this area.

(Not going to setup my own CDN/proxy network now, though that might be an interesting learning experience/experiment later.)

Heya!

So from the recent thread, I'm looking VPS for hosting my website(WHCMS, Support Panel, and main web), still under testing what to use .

So from this thread, as you understand I'm looking CDN. I'm using Cloudflare now but wanna change it and go with something 'premium'.

I've made some researches and I see quite good recommendations for BunnyCDN and the second option is Stackpath(that was connected with MaxCDN).

So wanna hear your recommendations, witch one is better? Maybe I'm missed, someone? I haven't used them both, so I'm like blind now.

P.S I'm not interested in Google CDN / Azure CDN / AWS...
