no script or cronjob needed, but autofs is what you are looking for. should be available in all major distros...
-
nah. have a 4c/8G like that already in my collection, nice box, all good.
-
Dunno, I guess once you break the addiction cycle (BF-Xmas-Easter), it gets easier... Only suprising flash sales put you in danger then. I have to admit I had have it in my cart and the discount applied already... daemons, daemons everywhere!
-
seriously man, please don't do such things out of the cold. I nearly bought something that I don't need ...
-
ah true... you're in the storage game with those for storj and the likes anyway. would have been interesting, what are you plans on how long to keep those boxes around?

yeah I am not sure which part of the chain is the actual weakest. I can see the DOCSIS 3.1 channel for upload dropping randomly and if that starts to happen it usually goes downhill quickly, bad connection/packet loss and so on. somehow the renegotiation seems to fix it, or maybe it is some kind of overflowing buffer…

you could try and get a cloud server at hetzner to run some tests and compare the speeds. as it's hourly billed gonna be only a few cents. of course also check speeds between home and that cloud server. maybe depending on those results as a third step also try then running a tunnel from home to that server and pull data…

feel you bro... try restarting the router in between so the cable connection fully resyncs... seems to help some times for me.

FTP is generally slow, so I think you won't get much higher. quite a while back I tried different protocols from within hetzner network, but seem to cannot find the results anymore... if I remember correctly al other protocols are faster, you can activate those in the controlpanel, but keep in mind that some are not…

hmm, I was afraid, you'd say something like it. yet the budget calculation is based on 8$ per TB and month, which I think is not that low after all... and yes of course I consider soyoustart or even kimsufi feasible, as I don't care about the external connection much - but I get your point. ;-) still gotta try, right? yes…
-
one out of two now here too.
-
nothing here so far, but we'll see. I'll simply wait if/what happens next...
-
level of laziness: premium it's 10 * 1024 * 1024 * 8 / 500 / 60 / 60 = 46.6 hours - consider overhead and shit and add 20% or so but still, 2-3 days only ;-)
-
that's true. but I have yet to see the IP change, even on a reconnect it stays. and with cable there is forced reconnect after a day anymore, so essentially you stay online anyway and the IP doesn't change. static enough for me... ;-)
-
not true. at least if you are on cable. don't ask for a static IPv4 but for 'switching from DS lite to full dual stack' ;-) afaik it incur some small fees, unless you are in the middle of a bigger complaint, then they're quite happy to give to you for free... or so I heard
