You gave me a VM for a few months when you first started because I found an issue with the IPv6 version of your website - had no issues at all with that (seemed stable and quick), and having just seen the student discount, think it's all convinced me to sign up for a bigger plan :) Really glad you're still going strong and…

This is much better looking to me - great for e.g. a few popular wordpress sites, with enough RAM to cache well and some fast storage. The backups idea is great. How long would backups be retained for?

I don't think so :) It's a fork of mutt that seemed to arise from disagreements on the code style of mutt - it's handy for my purposes because it supports "content-type: multipart/alternative" that lets me put the text/html alternative content in one email, which mutt didn't seem to be able to do.

Thanks for all the responses, loads of great options! Ended up switching to neomutt on desktop, and set it up to compile markdown emails into emails with two alternative contants: a plain text email, and a HTML email. That way people using plain text clients get a decent email out of it, but I can also do the formatting to…

They're pretty solid - I used them for a little while to get notifications whenever there's an SSH login to my servers. Had no issues - plus the ability to set your own Alphanumeric sender ID without paying extra is great.

+1 for Twilio, but AWS SNS SMS is pretty decent too - pricing is not bad for UK: https://aws.amazon.com/sns/sms-pricing/

Not really for general-purpose coding, but if the stuff you're doing is data analysis or relatively short scripts, JupyterLab is great. I've self-hosted it for data analysis for a while - I mostly used it for Python but I believe that it supports other languages too

VMHaus posted a very long statement on their website with some background information - it pretty much just confirms what's been said in this thread, in my opinion.

Ah, I'd assumed they'd merged some of the behind-the-scenes parts (maybe the customer database). I didn't realise that - but from a quick google search, I suspect you're right.

Eugh, I hope the data isn't really being traded. I love Mythic Beasts - they're really solid and great to deal with.

Thanks Anthony, I appreciate it. If it turns out to be my fault, I'm obviously happy to pay :)

Thanks, I can't debug this from my end anymore though (doing a TCPdump doesn't show the DNS request reaching my machine on one of my two IPs, I don't have any firewall installed yet, but I can see ICMP requests get through to that IP, and I can connect to a netcat server on other ports (not 53) on that IP). Is it alright…

Great offer :) How sure are you that they're not blocking any DNS traffic now? I've been having some really weird intermittent issues with my DNS slave (with recusion disabled) hosted there - I was going to ticket about it with debug information (an explanation and some tcpdumps) but saw you're quite busy from the messages…

Thanks all for the feedback. I'm very tempted by BuyVM and have been a customer for several years without any major issues but I've had some ticket interactions with them that were a bit more effort than I'd like for this project. I really just don't have enough time to keep chasing things up or rephrasing stuff, and want…
