Okay, fair enough. (I was assuming that VMware was comparable to KVM as far as this survey was concerned.)
-
Yeah, just for clarity of comparison, I'd write: For SpectraIP: 2,50€ /month + EU VAT For netcup: 2,69€ /month + EU VAT (advertised price includes 19% German VAT) For Hetzner: 2,49€ /month + EU VAT And let me add: Aruba Cloud: 2,79€ /month + EU VAT

Although it may not address your precise question, the page "The Timeline of Perl and its Culture" is immensely informative: http://history.perl.org/PerlTimeline.html Perhaps closer to addressing your question, here are slides from a talk by Larry Wall (the creator of Perl) in 1994 entitled "The Taming of the Camel":…

Soon we'll need PERL SELEKTER

I also use nmh on a couple of servers (see above), but I prefer to use the Emacs interface =) I've never used mmh, but it strikes me as a one-man show, whereas nmh at least has a few core developers! I'm a bit tempted to try out the mh clone included in GNU Mailutils ( https://mailutils.org/ ), which apparently is…

The two main email clients that I use (depending on the server) are: * nmh (New Message Handler) with Emacs interface * Read Mail on Usermin

Well, since the other forum is LET, it's to be expected. ("Why pay $40 when you can pay $4 on eBay?") Anyway, PC World is legitimate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_World By the way, the Home edition is on sale for 29.99€ ( https://software.pcworld.com/p36881-windows_10_home ) (In the EU, the prices appear in euros.)

Like a number of you, I'm also interested in the similarities and differences between wikis, knowledge bases, and documentation. If one really wants a wiki, I would recommend going with dedicated wiki software. In this case, DokuWiki would be a good all-around choice. One can use a wiki for a knowledge base or…

Another (less self-centered) criticism is that when a 20% tip is expected, the customer suspects that they're covering a part of the waiter or waitress's salary that the employer should be covering.

Traditional German-style cancellation conditions aren't for everyone, so precisely for this reason, it helps to be aware of them.

People, €2,79 /month (+ VAT) isn't the end of the world for a VPS with these specs that one actually uses. In fact, it's still a very good deal given the reliability of Aruba Cloud. It may be a little pricey for a VPS that one idles, but not for a VPS that one uses. Anyway, the writing was on the wall because this was…

They look pretty attractive to me!

Just to add that Contabo themselves offer real dedicated servers at reasonable prices ( https://contabo.de/?show=server ), so they must feel that there's a market for "virtual dedicated servers", and I suspect that they're right.
-
Hetzner cloud servers with dedicated vCPU at least have the advantage that they have hour-based billing, which can be useful for short-term uses.
-
I was looking at Hetzner's server auction because that was what had been mentioned. But you're right that Hetzner's AX-line would make for a better comparison. As far as Hetzner is concerned, perhaps the best comparison would be with their cloud servers with a dedicated vCPU, which also aren't so cheap: go to…

It seems to me that Contabo's new product line is akin to but significantly cheaper than Vultr's Dedicate Cloud Instances ( https://www.vultr.com/products/dedicated-cloud/#pricing ). These virtual dedicated servers are intended for people who really need to use a lot of CPU and RAM on a regular basis. Naturally, one can…

He seems to represent the "let me use a cheap storage VPS as a cheap KVM"-style thinking :#
