First and foremost - thanks for reaching out. I had given up on JetBackup (and Softaculous for that matter) with DirectAdmin. They work very well on cPanel, but last time I tried on the DirectAdmin hosting I'm using, they wouldn't work. If the app is patched for DirectAdmin, I'd first give it another go, then, if it…

I mean server load stats shown using PhpSysInfo (link with the pic), or within cPanel/WHM (cPanel itself shows it to users/customers), as shown here: Yes, caching doesn't do much for the backend. Also, when doing major changes in post categories for example (with hundred or more existing posts), it does put some load on…
-
Have you checked server load stats? Because, everytime I check, server CPU is not even 50% loaded (unless cPanel server load info is lying). Also, for WordPress, depending on how one does the caching (and other optimizations), LiteSpeed that comes with shared hosting (included in the price) can give a lot of "bang for the…

Related to the parts of your post concerning shared (vs VPS) hosting: I would say it depends. I wrote here about VPS (vs shared). I would also add that there are good, and poor quality shared, as well as VPS providers. I've seen WP sites run noticeably (and, definitely measurably) faster on a good shared hosting (with…

So, if I understand correctly, provided there's enough space for all the files (and backups), any extra storage does not affect performance? Another question: have you noticed any measurable performance gains from allowing WP to make multiple image copies? Because, it can be configured to just leave the original, uploaded…

Goes without saying, but worth noting nonetheless: good work @vyas Question(s): How does the storage size play? I.e. why 5 GB for SSD, and 2 GB for NVMe? Small WP site takes under 200 MB of storage. I did notice problems when using backup plugins - they need more space (up to 10 times more than the website size) to use for…

Couldn't get it to work properly (probably due to not still patched to work with DirectAdmin control panel).

.> @bibi said: For backups - there are practical upsides to automation. Because people make mistakes, and/or forget. Over the year's, I've made sure to have at least one remote copy always automated. This can be achieved without using any plugins - which (at least IMO) is a better solution. Why? Each plugin puts more load…

To quote myself? :) "Here is how to migrate from practically any SEO plugin, to practically any SEO plugin"

In practice - LiteSpeed performance is very close (at least from my testing). In other words: if they both cost the same, or were both free ( :) ), I'd go with WP Rocket. Otherwise, I don't think it's worth it. Besides - LiteSpeed also does a lot of those liste stuff. It also does image optimization (if you don't do that…
-
@Fritz If you are on a LiteSpeed server, think there's not much speed to be gained from WP Rocket - so in that case it's not worth it (IMO). But if not - it's probably the best (and very beginner friendly) caching solution. Here is how to migrate from practically any SEO plugin, to practically any SEO plugin: Migrating…

If you take care of that latter part, she might stop complaining about the former. :)

I wrote about my Google AdSense setup (experiment). TL/DR: no Autoads - but did test that for a while. The theme is GeneratePress. Free version. As for your other questions: * The above linked article on AdSense shows speed test comparison with, and without AdSense. It does slow things down. Even Google's Lighthouse…

My thoughts on The SEO Framework Pro (i.e. the paid version) plugin - for SEO, what else? :) Some months after having written on the free version of TSF.

As far as I'm concerned - any hosting company could deadpool - nothing is guaranteed. Backups, always, prepared to move... I do currently host with them. Have more than a year of subscription left (until spring 2022). So, during 2021, I'll see how things fare (unless they deadpool earlier). Then decide whether I'll stay,…

Haven't you noticed these things (disk size, account number, and prices) change on the go? Check again in a month or two, to see what the situation is like. :)

I think that's beautiful. :)

It's Serbia - we got them smugglers! :) Mostly from German companies, they seem to replace hardware after only 3 years. Or people have become surprisingly good at stealing from banks. :) "Come to Serbia - your bicycles are already here!" :)

For me, the best laptops for the money are used (2nd hand) company laptops, the business models (Dell, HP preferably). Paid some 350 euros for an i5, 8 GB RAM, discrete graphics card, 500 GB SSD - and the battery still in a surprisingly good condition. The brand new prices charged, at least in Serbia, are outrageous.…

Hardware solution - duct tape over the screen areas where ads are usually shown.

I had to plug in the coffee machine somewhere... It'll be back on line soon. ... one sugar spoon, or two?

On a more positive side - imagine you never had any millions to loose. :)

It returns 404, instead of "true / 1". :)

It will soon be back to normal - they are just migrating from HostMantis before January... :)

Marry.

As far as Yoast is concerned - it all works wonderfully. Yes. I had left a test site with their patches - and it kept making huge database. Then removed Yoast completely from all the websites after a few months. Tested on a site with GeneratePress, and very few other plugins (that all work fine and stably, with many…

Test all the used themes and plugins on a staging website before updating. Fortunately (knock on wood), of the one's I've been choosing, never have I had a problem with an update - for over 5 years now. But I hear lots of horror stories with every WP update. Sure - it makes perfect sense to wait a bit, and definitely…

Some (shared) hosting provider's can't understand this. Thanks to CL, PHP 5.x can still be run, relatively securely - for those who don't like changing stuff that works, making updates for updates sake. Stuff over 6 months will soon be considered old, obsolete - it's getting crazier and crazier!
-
What to watch out for? Considering the craziest stuff that can pop to mind: * having more than 2 levels, with Cloudlfare DNS, will create TLS problems. Like: dev01.subdomain.example.com, instead of dev01.example.com. The first one will not work properly. * Likewise, ftp.dev01.example.com is not likely to work (with a…

I use MXroute for all the emails - makes migrations a lot simpler. With a spearate DNS (Cloudflare for now) service. While I've had problems with using Softaculous WP migration/cloning tool migrating from Myw.pt servers, migration to Myw.pt have worked OK.
-
I configure subdomains as domains in DirectAdmin. And then it all works fine. Not sure about automatic migrations though - suppose you might have to do migrations manually. Also - think it makes sense to create a separate account for each website (each domain and each subdomain) - would expect that to make any further…
