My opinion. Not a hosting provider so mostly (un)educated guessing: 1) Reseller hosting prices were affected. Number of cPanel accounts you get for the price and/or removal of unlimited account number hosting offers. That's where the price increase per cPanel has most affect. 2) Price per single shared hosting account (not…

Haven't tried. I use KVM switch so one monitor+keyboard+mouse can be used to control several computers, in different networks, but never used more than one monitor on my computers.

Similarly. Gave Linux a try for desktop / home use a couple of times - didn't stick. But with Mint - it just works. Very idiot friendly. Almost as good as Windows in terms of user interface. :)

That's some good advice - from the both of you. Thanks. However, my idea was to simply ask for the VPS recommendation here, when the time comes. I find this forum informative, helpful and trust the knowledge and experience of many members here a lot more than I would trust my own "investigation" into a topic I am far from…

Question: My country has good Internet link with Germany, decent with the UK and the US. Most of the servers I use are in Germany, UK and US east coast. In terms of upload/download speed, if I go with a VPS for VPN, does it matter where the VPS server is located? If yes, where would the best position be? Closer to home, or…

Just to "publicly" thank everyone for offering both advice and help setting up a VPN using a VPS. Both in this thread and using private messages. I really appreciate it and will most likely get a VPS - if not by the end of this year, then by the end of the next one (unless "the end is nigh" gets me first - you never know…

So, to confirm I got it right: your original note was related to configuring DNS for a website hosting server that doesn't have a static IP? Not a way for me to have an "outbound" static IP when connecting to on-line services? If that's the case, then I do understand.
-
This is beyond my current level of comprehension. :(

Thanks. Really appreciate it. Been thinking of playing with a VPS for some time now - it's just the hectic schedule that adding one more, small, simple thing... will probably turn out to be too much. Still, considering putting off dedicated IP until I clear some stuff off my plate, then give it a go using a VPS. Though…

It's not crucial, but it can make life easier. One example: SSH connection for some (shared/reseller) providers requires to provide an IP address that is allowed to use it. So dynamic IP doesn't work. Similarly - whitelisting a single IP on firewall can help for some use cases. Can live without it, but if it's available…

Found Ivacy.com selling a dedicated IP for 2$ per month (and VPN at a discount of under 2$ per month). Are they any good?
-
That's cool for partying with 20 year olds - but not something I'd play otherwise. :) Helps that I don't understand the lyrics. :) Though even on those occasions, I prefer (when able to choose :) ) something a bit less awful (at least in my opinion): :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZLslotBOEY You don't have to make the…

Bijelo Dugme was super-popular in Yugoslavia. Sort of a mixture of Bon Jovi (commercial, not really high quality music, but technically very good and super-popular) and Led Zeppelin (with some songs, experimenting with different styles, incorporating folk music, and adding a real artistic touch). They are often disregarded…

For everything else, there's the Mastercar... NSA. :)

MXroute for domain emails, connected to Gmail client.

I understand your point - but. :) Not arguing - just trying to explain my point of view - if it's of any practical use for your test. Tests I had in mind measure sort of a non-critical load (for a somewhat decent hosting with caching set properly). If there are hick-ups with those - then I conclude that server is not…

I still don't see how a comparative performance test can harm anything. It would only give more info, that could be useful in judging performance reducing effect of overselling more objectively. Without it, it's like avoiding to use a thermometer in comparing whether cellar is cooler than an air conditioned room. Sure -…
-
Would it make sense to run a speed/stress test - was that intended? For comparison of how performance changes depending on whether a server is oversold, or not.
-
My 2c - not (claiming to be) an expert - have that in mind, but if it's of any use: Overselling is a rather reasonable way to sell resources. Because many websites (not sure about other on-line applications) are idle at times, more or less. As long as overselling is well balanced, it allows for a lot lower price (and…
-
Overselling is not the same as overloading. It would be interesting to have 4 test servers. One not oversold. Second "conservatively" oversold. Third "normally" oversold. Fourth "optimistically" oversold.

"Along with the standard computer warranty agreement which said that if the machine 1) didn't work, 2) didn't do what the expensive advertisements said, 3) electrocuted the immediate neighborhood, 4) and in fact failed entirely to be inside the expensive box when you opened it, this was expressly, absolutely, implicitly…

That's why I asked.

Anybody know if that license can be transferred from one computer to another? And is there a limit to the number of transfers?

I prefer doing the image optimization manually. Why? * It doesn't require one more WordPress plugin. The fewer plugins, the better, generally speaking - so I use only those that are really needed, that really help. Either by saving hours of coding, or too much work/hassle when creating content. * It gives me more control.…

Mostly what others have already written. WP Fastest Cache is good. W3TC is a pain to configure to work as good as possible, but when/if you do, it might be even better (if not configured properly, it might be slower). My 2c on WP caching plugins. And I used WP-Optimize, worked fine, though many recommend Autooptimize…

OT - underground scene from Novi Sad - guys from the neighbourhood (better than IDJ videos :) ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NDFpoaZ4pw And a bit softer sound, from Belgrade (the pussies :) ), still cool (at least I love them): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p6abpqC0-s Disbanded band that was very progressive in the…

You'll thank me after we rip you off. :p

Feel free to contact me about any handyman (and computer/tech) related stuff over here, especially in Novi Sad (Serbian Amsterdam, 2nd largest city). If I can't do it - I usually know who can. In fact - I prefer to recommend other people - too much work on my hands. As for the song - it's satyrical, making fun of cheap…
