  • Having in mind that, no matter how objective I try to be, I still have more experience with cPanel and would say I "like it" more - so that should be noted - I would say that cPanel is better. Though I really did give DirectAdmin a chance, with as open mind as can be. It just still isn't as good. In other words: for a…
  • It depends on the use case - type of site, user's knowledge, experience...
  • I consider using a plugin for backup a poor solution. Not expecting an application to back itself up. Prefer to set backups with the hosting server - to a remote storage of choice. DirectAdmin backup. cPanel backup with JetBackup (to supercheap Backblaze B2 storage).
  • My personal point of view (not sure if it's shared by most customers, or not): 1) Only those who never do anything make no mistakes. The difference between the good and the bad providers is whether mistakes are something that happens regularly, or a rare exception. Also, it matters if measures are taken to prevent the same…
  • I'd argue that premium starts some 40% higher - at over 10$ per month.
  • I use reseller hosting almost exclusively. For me, premium means: * Good support * LiteSpeed (for WP performance) * CloudLinux (beter isolation / security) * Daily off-site backups for at least past 7 days provided by the provider * Good technical support and reasonable response times * Nowadays, premium would also mean…
  • Garlic does wonders. Along with grinding some ginger in tea (with a bit of honey). Along with SUC (Serbian Universal Cure): RAKIJA! :) Even if it doesn't cure you, after drinking enough of it, you just don't care. :)
  • Don't understand the second paragraph.
  • Test samples are important. When I find a problem, I (most often, unless it's really minor and I won't bother) write down how to reproduce it and confirm. That usually helps with troubleshooting.
  • I am aware the data is decrypted on their servers, then re-encrypted on. My websites work perfectly fine with TOR browser - no captchas. Suppose this goes when you enable "I'm under attack" mode. I have set it all up so that I can switch back to using CF as a DNS only, or even completely switch from it to another (free)…
  • Not sure I follow. How would I get any problems, or how would Cloudflare get any benefits from reading my website data? It is all publicly published anyway. Passwords used are unique for the website. It would be suicidal for their business plan to abuse those. Emails? Didn't get any spam so far, after now about 2 years of…
  • Depends on the use case. For my use, the free option provided by CF does more good than harm. Or, looking at it from another angle: in the whole mass surveillance banquet, it doesn't make any difference whether a small website from Serbia is also monitored. Same goes for using Google AMP. EDIT: did check out the BunnyCDN.…
  • Native is (now) enabled by the hosting provider. Using Cloudflare for other reasons, not for IPv6 connectivity. But it apparently handles that as well.
  • For all I know, Cloudflare already has it enabled for visitor connection to their servers. Connection from CF servers to hosting server is IPv4 for now. To enable IPv6 connection from hosting to CF servers, I'd (only) need to add matching AAAA records.
  • Didn't note that, sorry, my bad: I'm using shared (reseller) hosting, not a VPS. If that makes any difference regarding this topic.
  • Yes, for the moment I'm using Cloudflare as both DNS and a proxy. However, server connection to Cloudflare's servers is done over IPv4 (because I've only used A records, not AAAA). Do you suggest it's better to keep both A and include AAAA, or get rid of A records all together (or is it irrelevant if using Cloudflare as a…
  • I'd suggest pinning this topic to the "starting page".
  • With our local motorcycling forum, we forbade the upload of images - only using links to images stored elsewhere. This solved all the storage problems and allowed it to keep running on a dirt cheap hosting account.
  • Edited the original post - for now IPv4 is still also supported with the provider. So it's not a forced move. If there are no (potential) downsides, it's a go. :)
  • I wouldn't call it a waste of time. Nor something that would keep you for months, preventing you from doing the other important things - like making a business plan. Sort of goes hand in hand with all that. Boils down to doing what's up to you to make it all work. P.S. @deank - I thought "OG" stands for "Openly Gay". Your…
  • I'm with the "take the .com by all means" line of thought - no one prevents you from using .local-country as well (or redirect .com to it, making the local country TLD a primary one). Also, when choosing a domain/brand name - good test is to tell it to your friends and ask them to write it down. If they can't figure it…
  • Correct/disregard if it's a stupid idea: One entity/person getting the control of the hosting/database and backups. Another entrusted with the domain. It's as close as it can get to distributing the trust/responsibility, so that no one person is in a position to do as they please. It can be further watered down by having…
  • Way to give the new forum support and a "push-start". :+1: @cociu
  • Elementor, even in free version, can give lots of design options. I'd go with that if choosing a page builder. I chose GeneratePress theme to work with Elementor (it's very well documented, well written, fast - and, like any theme when you are using a page builder - it doesn't affect the design too much). The problem with…
