Can't edit the original post anymore, but I'd like to add 2 new services to the list: https://www.storj.io/pricing - up to 150 GB (50GBx3) of distributed storage (incl. up to 150 GB of free bandwidth); optional S3-compatible access layer available (rclone supported) https://www.scaleway.com/en/object-storage/ - half of the…

This one killed me B) Other than that, judging by a sample of negative comments I went through, the catch here seems to be * it's safer to use encrypted containers (due to some kind of copyright bot scanning files, esp. mp3 files seem to be a no-no) * the paid lifetime account is something to avoid (but then again, this…

@RapToN Have the plans slightly changed since you posted? (i.e. the website is correct and the first post is already slightly outdated?) * Original post says public IPv6 included, but there's no mention of it on the website * Similarly, the Pro plan is not 1/2GB RAM + 5GB SSD but 1GB RAM + 10GB HDD

The former looks really nice! (in fact, so nice that it makes me wonder how long it'll last this way ^^') As for the latter, watch out for insane bandwidth pricing, and possibly consider using Cloudflare Workers as well!

https://book.keybase.io/files You can easily store and share files from any device you use Keybase on. Individuals can store up to 250 GB and teams can store up to 100 GB. Anything you add to Keybase Files is automatically end-to-end encrypted and signed by you. Since it's encrypted by default as per the above snippet, I…

Sadly, Yandex seems to be only 10GB nowadays. Also, having tried to upload something bigger to Degoo, I just noticed there's a hidden limit - the max file size for free accounts is 512MB...

I've been also thinking about a similar problem the other day (i.e. what might be arguably the single best place to host a global website on the cheap?) - but then, I realized I'm not exactly sure how the Internet works OTL. (Lots of speculation follows, please correct me in case I'm wrong) For example, in the case of a…

One possibility is that your (I guess not just Swedish but Scandinavian?) transparency in general is most likely a good thing for employees - as long as everyone knows more or less how much you and your peers are earning, this leads closer to a fair pay for all (although this is probably just part of it, I bet your high…

Thread tl;dr until now: * Calling a customer stupid (MaxKVM the company) * Not giving an apology where it is due (MaxKVM the account) * Giving no further explanation and saying there will be no further discussion of this inside this thread (MaxKVM the account) * Calling the customer stupid again, calling other people…

Um, sorry, not sure what public backend we're talking about.. In the above suggestion, I assumed that the only backend (the staging WP) would be private (limited to contributors' IPs, perhaps only to 1 if all of them were to be required to connect via a shared low-end VPS) - and that only the frontend=static HTML would be…

How about using something like https://wp2static.com/ ? tl;dr leave the familiar interface/user integration inside the staging env, and make the main blog static=safer+faster (caveat: you'd probably need to be willing to give up plugins) Putting the work involved in the initial setup aside, this would allow your authors to…

Sorry for necroing this thread, but since I'm looking for cheap storage (use case: save and forget AKA last resort backup) and have been eyeing C14: Sauce pls? (Did this happen to you by any chance?)
-
Sorry, to clarify: I meant core IaaS, not just VPS - Lightsail also has load balancers and managed containers (technically not IaaS anymore, but... ;)) and DBs. Object storage is missing though.
-
GCP and Azure also have something like this: https://cloud.google.com/run/ https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/container-instances/
-
Yes (apparently, this is why the other day we chose Azure instead of AWS) Ummm.. apples to oranges? I wouldn't be picky if you said DO instead of Lightsail, but AWS is more than just VPS (core IaaS) Enterprise Reputation matters a lot; at times, due to internal bureaucracy, unless we get a trusted third party in between…

I don't think changing your port to anything else than 22 makes any sense since tools like Shodan scan 0.0.0.0/0 on all ports all the time anyway. In general I'd say ssh key auth is probably better than password auth. (harder to brute force, if not impossible) I'm not sure whether setting "PermitRootLogin" to "no" is of…

Thanks for the answers! Well that's probably two ways of looking at the one same thing... > OK, now I finally might know where the major misunderstanding stems from (and why it's hard to compare them this way). "Google Cloud Platform is a part [4] of Google Cloud, which includes the Google Cloud Platform public cloud…

You didn't mention that part in your original post... Fail, poor newbie fish being eaten by affiliate sharks. :(
-
Well, the article from the first post does compare them that way, so does Gartner and many others... And fairly enough, those enterprisey SaaS at AWS and Microsoft Cloud (Office365+Azure)are probably complete opposites (side income / main money maker and vice versa), not sure about Google, but arguably, let's say you're…

(Judging only by face value here, since I haven't used any of these.. other than GCP but not for WP :P) 'A is expensive thus bad and B is cheap thus good?' Sorry, even though this is LES, I have to say IMO it's a bit more nuanced than that... as in, there is a reason why they all cost what they do. I'm by no way a WP…

Well, AWS (the undisputed market leader in the segment) are doing the same, and yet they are profitable: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/29/amazon-cloud-revenue-jumps-29percent-in-line-with-expectations.html

I haven't seen their books but I'd bet Alicloud (Alibaba Cloud) is also profitable. (Also, they seem to be gaining on GCP too.. although I think their main customer base is just China+Chinese-influenced neighboring economies, whereas GCP is more or less used all around the world)

Oh... sorry, guess that Reddit comment was misleading after all. -_-' By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but in your scenario, you'd be the admin for all people involved? (as in, even though the accounts would theoretically be separate, you'd be holding a master account of sorts)? If my understanding is correct, then…

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Linux%20ISO (I too learned this term on this forum the other day :P) Wow....! That's definitely too much for Jotta, maybe just upgrade your GDrive to a business account? I seriously doubt you'd be able to get this much storage for the same price elsewhere (provided the…
