It's not very much. Look up Roubaix (where OVH is) on a map. It's almost in Belgium. If you live in Antwerp and you choose a VPS in Rotterdam it might just be 2ms extra. But this is exactly why a lot of Flemish people choose a Dutch hosting provider and French Speaking Belgians choose for a French provider.
-
It should be noted that a lot of providers are missing in Serverhunter and that their pricing omits VAT. EDIS 2GB would be 10,21 with 21% Belgian VAT for instance.
-
The outright cheapeast that I've found was at Oneprovider as part of their 'OneCloud'. 3 USD for 1 cpu/512M/10GB SSD/500 GB traffic. (downsides: Oneprovider, wouldn't get provisioned and M247 network) Cheapest 2GB that I've found is at https://www.versio.be/vps-hosting for 9.99 EUR (bit cheaper than EDIS). Order form…

You’re thinking the wrong way. Let’s say my ISP has a bad connection to a hosting provider in Germany, possibly due to bad routing. But I have a VPN that has a great connection to both my isp and the hosting provider. Then my connection to that provider will improve greatly even though the server is still as far away.…

It’s the same affiliate code, so probably. Don’t know if this was the reason he got banned though.
-
Netcup doesn’t even sell dedi’s and they’re not present in the US either. Good move, Socrates.
-
Only for existing customers, I guess.
-
I thought this too, a metal license costs 45 USD. That means there’s 30 USD left for the dedi. Maybe 40-45 USD if the providers has a good deal with cPanel.

2.5/2 = 1.25 ;) Didn't notice this excludes VAT. It's not for me anyway. Ikoula's network is meh at best.
-
An IPv4 for 1,25/month isn't too expensive.
-
Getting this. Connected through WiFi, so the speedtest doesn’t make sense. Does connect me to the right POP though. Traceroutes to sites behind CF go to London or Düsseldorf sometimes.
-
Good excuse. I'm going to use it when I buy something new my girlfriend doesn't approve of.

So, Leaseweb prefers routing over Telstra in Hong Kong over routing through GTT directly in Singapore. Probably because it's a cheaper route for them. This is also what makes the RTT higher. As you can see the routing from HVLC stays in Singapore. What @MaxKVM can ask HVLC or LLNW to do is trying to make this route a bit…
-
As far as I can see, the problem is on the other side. There’s only so much MaxKVM/HVLC can do about this.

Their network page is just outdated. Luxembourg is Cogent-only with an HE.net IPv6 tunnel for full v6 routes. It's meh, but depending on what you want to do with the box, it can be sufficient. For webhosting it's more than enough, for a Plex box you might want to look to providers with better connectivity.
-
It’s single homed behind Cogent. So it’s very meh.
-
You could've just tried the looking glass before ordering? I see this a lot with China Mobile by the way, my ISP peers with them in Amsterdam. Looking at the RTT it's going through the US as well.
-
Actually, you’re not and judging by your name I’d think you’d know better. The network infrastructure in The Netherlands including the datacenters are among the best of the world. However, Virtono uses M247 so it’s clear where the problems come from. Nothing to do with Dutch infrastructure.
-
.nl (it’s controlled by a nonprofit so that’s why it’s not too expensive). A .de is very affordable too. Fun fact: .nl is also the oldest ccTLD.
-
I’m happy that ‘my’ ccTLD is very cheap, less than 4 EUR for reg/renewal. And it’s trusted by all mail providers as well. I wouldn’t use any of those novel domains for anything that’s remotely important.
-
That’s why I explain how it really works in Germany. There is nothing to be afraid of here. Plenty of reasons not to like Netcup, however.
-
This is not exactly true. After two weeks they’ll send you a reminder. A month later they’ll sent you another reminder. If by then you stilll haven’t paid, they’ll hire a debt collector. So it’s not like that if you don’t pay, you’re in legal problems directly. You’ve got a lot of time to set things straight. If you don’t…

Well, to be fair I didn't go public with my experience for 4 months because it is a free service. My post was just to warn people that the site has to be 'active' but that there's no real definition for that. It might be good to make that point more concrete.
