Can't comment on their .nu/.se pricing, but they are reliable. Got a domain with them for a few years now.

$7? On a more serious note, thanks a lot to you and @mikho for keeping the ship in great shape. While I don't post very often, I do read threads and pass on the word about LES. Here's to another 5 years of success.

Congrats on the new suite. :) Adding another recommendation. I have a Mouse storage server with them from a 2019 BF offer that's still rolling along very well. I've been using it as a backup box and Minio bucket. In the entire time, it had 1 uplink network outage in January and compensation was offered for the downtime.…

MediaTemple used to be all right years ago, before GoDaddy got to them. A friend had service with them for over 10 years, uptime was good until around the time it was acquired, around 2013. Then it was MySQL connect errors every few months, occasionally 2-3 times a month. Possibly Dreamhost, if it counts as a big brand? My…

Wekan is relatively easy to set up manually, which makes it a cool option to quickly put up an instance for a small team and get going. Only thing is it uses MongoDB via Meteor which might be a turn-off for some people. I also like Taiga, though it might be an acquired taste, being oriented towards agile/scrum practices.…

Two more potentially for single-sided T-shirts.

My first one was probably DSL because it was one of the easiest to get on dialup. The downside was missing out on some of the more useful applications available in other distros out of the box, but it was also the most reliable distro that could boot on my half-broken laptop (at least among a few I had put on CDs) at the…

Here are some initial ideas for merchandise. They are front/back designs that should fit T-shirts and mugs. 2 using existing LES colours and 2 on LES forum topics.

My nominations, if the individuals are interested and will consider the role: @mikho Why: great record of welcoming and helping other members on multiple forums, sharing knowledge in tutorials or wiki. Years of solid moderation. @Mason Why: active member with moderating experience. The YABS logo contest was a fun way to…

Congratulations AnthonySmith and Clouvider on the acquisition, and all the best with the new arrangement. :)

Having more admins sounds good, paid if possible. They can help with the bus factor and extend monitoring to more hours in the day. Also to avoid one person having to do all the work, getting burnout and end up leaving permanently as a result.

Yeah, my impression was there had been a major change in leadership direction around the time william left. Raspberry Pi colo got the axe sometime after. Great, thanks.

@AnthonySmith Thanks very much for starting this forum and all that you do to keep LES running! The opening posts were interesting and relevant background reading to get a sense of why the forum is set up the way it is, no need to apologise for their length. :) Glad to hear your lifestyle choice and decision to go all in…

The setup being opt-out is very telling. The other day: People Can’t Vacuum Or Use Their Doorbell Because Amazon’s Cloud Servers Are Down It could be a point for having a wifi mesh depending on how you look at it. It doesn't shake off the botnet vibe though.

"Never" as in never since LES signup. A lot of LET threads became tiresome to read with the amount of unfettered filler and hostility to legit support/sysadmin questions. Meanwhile the forum is part of a site peddling mostly low-quality, borderline-scam offers that reflect badly on the industry. I see no reason to give…

Haha. I suppose for those still owning leaky barges, it's a small comfort to know where the leaks are and how critical they are, should the barges sink.

To comment, I've had shared hosting with Subnet Labs for a few years now, great support. Maybe a few people will remember them from that other forum. They used to run nice resource bundle deals if I recall correctly. I wish the Subnet Labs founder all the best in the next ventures. Hello to the new ownership. :)

Debian minimal, or if not feasible, Alpine Linux as a second choice.
