"The good stuff comes on slow ..."

Apologies for not including more gory details in the OP. I'm typing with my thumbs, 6 hours into an 11-hour train ride ... Will be adding more bits and pieces in subsequent posts in this thread at random intervals - possibly for the next several years. (That's an inside joke referencing the 2018 BF flash sale thread from…
-
@tgl - I think there may be enough to say about virmach to warrant a thread unto itself :) EDIT: started a new thread to continue discussion about VirMach - https://talk.lowendspirit.com/discussion/226/virmach/p1 For now I'll just summarize my assessment from last couple years in a few of their USA locations: solid…

Pardon me sir but do you have a moment to hear about @liteserver ...? :scream: May be a bit pricey for idling (discounted to €6/m for BF/CM) with 8 TB monthly traffic ... Let's call it the LS NL NomNomNom PremIdler Aka NVME-2G - 2 CPU Cores- 2 GB RAM- 30 GB NVMe SSD Storage- 8 TB bandwidth / month And might also keep an…
-
@cybertech - the virmach flash sales are a pretty sweet deal and surprisingly stable systems for modest performance requirements. Maybe give them a week or two to settle down and recover from the BF madness but do check in with them if you need aes or other flags enabled Also be sure to do the needful to limit your CPU use…

They are send @SmallWeb to prison for 25-to-life for illegal TOS Deal with it!
-
@willie and @cybertech - here is a quick bench of the Freerangecloud ssd egg in Fremont - done before enabling aes (and possibly some other flags): https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14980364 Have been seeing consistently about 500 MB/s sequential write speed on the ssd Will be a couple days before I can get back to it…

via HB a bunch of OVZ7 deals in Dallas (hivelocity) from Catalyst Host: https://portal.catalysthost.com/cart.php?gid=26 Not cheap (but maybe that's a selling point :)) - these plans come with DDoS mitigation and lots of quality bandwidth for example, $24 annual payment gets you - 256MB RAM- 128MB Swap- 1x vCPU- 20GB HDD…
-
Welcome, @PureVoltage! And hello @FHR (SkylonHost) - welcome to the new deal :)
-
Hello hello hello hello! welcome @funkywizard and @ioflood_michael_b

@cybertech ^ keep an eye on this one :)

QuickPacket spotted - welcome @qps !

thinkihg maybe for now might just see what providers do on their own to offer incentives for annual payment? (Possibly could see extra resources instead of discount.) Currently for regular VPS offers there is only one stipulation for annual payment deals, that is: if possible to keep rules for resource pools somewhat…
-
I think it makes sense but hopefully might not be necessary to micromanage? And if we do start seeing offers for $14 resource pools with just 2 instances then would certainly expect some pretty serious resources in those pools. :) I guess what I like about the $7 per instance idea here is that it does set some limit fairly…
-
Simplest thing would be to set limit at $7 per instance. So price for a pool allowing 2 instances could be anything up to $14. Obviously a pretty generous limit but it keeps the math really simple. And providers can choose how competitive their specific prices for different locations are in that range - with a goodly…
-
for that scenario better just look for a good "big vps" deal - resource pool can put a low limit on the number of cores per instance. Being able allocate flexible amounts of RAM and disk across mulltiple instances is one of the more interesting features of a resource pool.
-
@HostDoc thank you for the perspective regarding costs and risks for providers. Looking at the current standard pricing for resource pools in different regions listed on your website - it seems like EU pools might fit into a "3 instances for $11" or "4 instances for $14" price limit but that would be a bit of a stretch for…

oho! A wild @SpeedBus appears! and is that - could it be? A @MikePT? looks like we might soon have a quorum for the forum.

hello @terrahost :)

agree would be good to hear from more providers definitely preferable to keep things as simple as possible that said ... some price points seem to resonate 3 for $10 seems about right - but maybe just a little bit tight ... (maybe that one could go up to $11? :)) and the 4 for $14 has a nice feel to it as well - and that…

sounds good boss but best I can do is about tree fiddy!

@poisson - I made a page here https://lowend.wiki/Resource_Pool - currently just contains a brief definition to get things started:
-
@AnthonySmith @seriesn @vimalware - I took the liberty of starting the resource pool thread: https://talk.lowendspirit.com/discussion/132/resource-pool-pricing-guidelines-feedback-wanted
-
@vimalware would you like to kick off the "resource pool suggested pricing guidelines feedback request thread" (RPSPGFRT) ...? :) EDIT: Started the resource pool pricing feedback thread here: https://talk.lowendspirit.com/discussion/132/resource-pool-pricing-guidelines-feedback-wanted#latest So far for KVM pools we have…

@SMARTHOST in da house! psssst - they might still have that unadvertised KVM resource pool deal available ... :)
