7 years ago SecureDragon promoted their 1-hour ticket response. Now the bar is higher and higher.

Good to know that my soul is lost.

If all you need is inbound port forwarding (no need for IPv6-only boxes to access IPv4 network), you may not need NAT. Consider socat or possibly iptables.

Last city name is wrong.

8044578669 P.S. It's my telephone number.
-
Oops. But my website has no controversial content, so why would anyone target me? My phone number is public and my password is on the wrong green forum. I use Cloudflare occasionally, when I don't want to deal with certificates.

Sure. 99 push-ups and it's all yours. https://yoursunny-summer-host.cf

Geolocation of US PoPs is also broken: Ashburn VA goes to Fremont CA, causing suboptimal CDN node selection in some cases. However, this isn't HE's fault. Blame the location database provider. Truth. It's also what I said earlier. As a stallion coder, I don't do dirty hacks.

Double the RAM and dedicated EPYC cores on half price chicken rate?
-
I can't afford persistence use of dedicated machines. I limit to about $30 per year per box. I do have access to dedicated machines for software benchmarking, but they are behind firewalls. Intel Cascade Lake, 256GB, 100Gbps network, be jealous. You can ping my website and get the server IP anyway. Evil stuff is already…

The provider owes you some push-ups. 1 hour of downtime = 1 push-up.

ADD35 may unlock routed IPv6.
-
You need to have routed IPv6. When we teach networking class, we need to send IPv4 traffic into a simulation system, and I just asked lab staff to setup static routes for a /16 subnet on the L3 switches.
-
Spreadsheet! I keep track of my boxes with DNS records. Because of naming convention, I can have at most ten boxes simultaneously.
-
How many of the 18 are idling?
-
If you own the domain, it's likely to be stable. If you don't own the domain (e.g. the free .tk), there's no guarantee.
-
Do we get dedicated EPYC cores on box ordered with ADD35?
-
I haven't decided what to do with my box. Some applications that I have used include: Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), which will always run cores at 100% (of course, 512MB and single core won't be enough for DPDK). Then, video transcoding, compiling, the list never ends.

Change to 240 MHz and let us use 100% all the time with no warning emails, OK? 240 MHz is still as fast as the ESP32, where I run my super critical applications.

Postmark is a benchmark designed to simulate the behavior of mail servers. It differs from dd in that it deals with many small files instead of a large file. Postmark is available in standard Ubuntu repositories. I trust the classics more than random potentially-malicious bash scripts. MaxKVM Singapore is current fragrant…

Copy-paste error here. What percentage of sustained usage is permitted? Can you permanently limit a box to the acceptable percentage from the hypervisor? I'd rather get a slower box than having to install complicated control scripts or getting warnings.
-
I wonder what happens if I enter Palais des Nations, 1211 Genève, Switzerland or 46 Downing Street.
-
Notably Singapore is sold out. I’m glad that I bagged it last week. I hate when I see the word fair share. Can you just use the hypervisor to enforce a limitation? For example, suppose the over-subscription ratio for CPU is 4.0, I’d prefer to be restricted to 25% at all times by the hypervisor, instead of having to do the…

I stared at the top picture for 30 seconds before realizing it’s a trap.

Sure. I’m gonna post some 4MB RAM and 32MB SSD offers over there - hosted on a BeagleBone Black in my closest.

I’m not a regular user. I have a PhD in computer networking. My grad school classes include major Internet protocols such as BGP and OSPF. I also know how to build a 100 Gbps router. My current immigration status doesn’t allow me to receive payment, otherwise the providers could be hiring me as consultants. As for…

I bought annual service on Black Friday, and it doesn't work… ?

Today I got a TeamViewer connection to my father's laptop, so I did traceroute to all my boxes. China Mobile, Shanghai residential fiber service. * Hop 1~9: China Mobile mainland. * Hop 10~11: China Mobile Hong Kong. * Hop 12~15: Hurricane Electric, San Jose ✈️ New York ✈️ London ✈️ Amsterdam. Very funny route.

My first experience with a Singapore box was in 2013, with OneAsiaHost. They offer two products with same hardware, one called "SSD VPS" with lower bandwidth but direct routing to China, the other called "Core VPS" with higher bandwidth but no direct China. https://perfops.net/traceroute-from-china suggests that the path…

In the past, I order one box per year. Two weeks before expiration, I start looking at LowEndBox.com and try to find a new box, then move the website there. Nowadays, this forum as well as the wrong green forum appear on my Chrome homepage, so that I would click on them when bored. This causes impulsive buys and I have…

Ordered the smallest box using EDU50. This is now my only box in Asia. If 70% off on Black Friday happens, I may get a bigger one. The existential question is: how long would it idle before I setup my website there? The record so far is 9 months.
-
Cloudflare will always be the cheapest, except first year discount.
-
This reminds me of Priceline hotel bidding: you don’t know which hotel you are getting into until after paying. If we can assume every configuration on the form has a valid price on the form, this would be a good deal on the high end. Maximizing everything: * 20 GB memory * 250 GB NVMe * 10 dedicated cores * 2 IPv4…

Someone is going to generate a link to a virus page and infest you when you visit the page to check.
-
I shouldn’t have signed up an expensive annual plan on Black Friday. It’s like you want a divorce but the ex-wife is still your roommate until the lease is up.

If the URL shortener could have a separate (sub)domain, you can achieve that with GitHub Actions. https://dev.to/tusharsadhwani/how-i-made-my-own-url-shortener-for-free-293p It's semi self-hosted because you control the git repository and can take it out at any time.
