I can - I paid 18 EUR to cover the Paypal transfer fees. Send me a DM and we can get this taken care of. I will be going to bed soon though, so if you don't hear from me right away just be aware I've gone to sleep.

I already paid for the domain... what do I do now???
-
Fast and easy transfer of ownership, thank you very much! :+1:

13 EUR

I do seem to get around... somehow.

I've had no issues on my end. The x86 VMs definitely are a bit slow in terms of Disk I/O but my 4C/24G ARM instance flies. I've got a Minecraft server running on it with no issues. It's unfortunate it seems hit & miss for some people. I've got my instances in Phoenix, myself.

Looks great. I might have to try this out when it comes to Debian stable. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=919807

Bidding 11 EUR.

If you aren't already signed up and have a credit card to sign up with, why not give Oracle Cloud a shot? You get two free x86 VMs with similar specs to your requirements, and a single free ARM VM that can go up to 4 cores and 24GB of RAM. Or multiple VMs if you split that up into chunks.
-
Generous offer! However I need to run Proxmox, so I don't think I can take you up on this really. But thank you for offering nonetheless :) Great offer! Might go with this one.
-
I've used https://domai.nr/ for this in the past.
-
I'll place the first bid at 5 EUR.

Shadowsocks and Wireguard-go need more RAM compared to the OpenVPN daemon. Simple as that. The more recent versions of each upped their RAM requirements. 256MB is not sufficient to run a system + the two clients, unless you really slim down the underlying system processes, use some swap space, and only run either…

How much memory does your OpenVZ container have?

At home I have the following for my local network: Proxmox install, currently with 1 VM that runs PiHole for local DNS. I also have a small dedi running Swizzin (https://swizzin.ltd). It runs as a private VPN endpoint, "media acquisition box" and runs a Syncthing daemon as well.

Once again showing you are the real MVP here. Thank you!
-
I'm fine with keeping it but a prompt to ask "are you sure" would be nice. I've accidentally clicked it a couple times.

Are we required to renew the servers after the test period ends? I would like to help test, but don't have a need to keep the VPS after the test period ends; I already have a lot of other storage VPSes that are working well for me right now.
-
If you don't need a VPS (depending on how you do your backups) a Hetzner Storage Box could be a good option too. https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-box Otherwise, LETBox is a decent option: https://letbox.com/page/storage

Just didn't want to come across as overly critical but you are right, I think your mentality is a good one to have. Being honest is important. Just was concerned about the inferred reasoning of my post rather than just providing cold hard data. :) Great points!

My best two since implementing my current monitoring solution (Freshping) in October 2021 are Primcast and Oracle Cloud Free Tier. Both have either had outages lasting less than 5 minutes (too fast for my monitoring to catch) or have not had any outages at all. Some hosts I've had downtime with, from best to worst since…

For me: * Disable root login * Enable Fail2Ban * Use a strong password and nonstandard username I find this is usually sufficient for most cases. Changing the port number never made sense to me. I could easily just port scan the rest of your host to find a open SSH daemon on another port anyways. Unless you take the time…

Using this usually works for me after adjusting the VCN security list: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/54794217/opening-port-80-on-oracle-cloud-infrastructure-compute-node

Dacentec is the main leader in this space: https://dacentec.com/ However, there is a major flaw with RTO, potentially. Depending on how long the rental term is, it could take so long to buy out the server that by the time you own it, the cost of power consumption with colocating it is rarely worth keeping the system around…

In my defense I hadn't used it in about a year and a half  Thanks for the heads up!

One of the things I loved the most was the built in integration with things like Return Youtube Dislike & SponsorBlock. Wish that was in NewPipe...
-
I'll start the bidding at 5 EUR.

Why put the failure on the hosts when you can instead make your... whatever high availability across multiple nodes, multiple companies, multiple datacenters, multiple regions? It doesn't excuse the outages but it will make it a much more trivial occurrence when they go offline.
-
If you buy refurbs, buy them in batches and expect a 30-60% failure rate, so buy 2x more than you need immediately, and be prepared for failures out of the gate-1 yr after purchase. It's a gamble for sure but if you have solid backups elsewhere and are OK with downtime during restoration, it's a reasonable option to keep…

+1 for the MyBooks. Super solid and reliable, though you can mostly achieve the same result with a WD Red drive and a USB Enclosure if you want to save a bit of money. Can't go wrong either way.
-
What I used to do is run a HP Microserver G7 for my NAS, but now what I do is just keep the drives on a shelf and drop them into a enclosure when I need to get at the data and index it using https://vvvapp.sourceforge.net/ (Virtual Volumes View). Works quite well if you don't always need instant access to the data and are…
