Awesome stuff, Ant! Looking forward to seeing many great offers and articles posted here.

I made a little writeup with a script that I use for all my personal stuff over on HT - https://hostedtalk.net/t/automated-backups-via-rclone-cloud-storage-gdrive-s3-dropbox-ftp-more/3406. Basically I just tarball important directories and upload it to an encrypted google drive via rclone. Not the most ellegant or…

It was brought up once before, but there didn't seem to be enough interest to add it in. I think most people (myself included) really don't know what "good" vs "bad" RAM speed looks like nor would it really affect them in any meaningful way under most circumstances (as long as the performance isn't shit, I guess. lol)

I put this together today to track YABS stats. Not very polished yet, but it's a start. Shows the # of runs and unique machines running YABS everyday. This is using cloudflare analytics API. I set up a script to update the data daily. https://yabs.rowe.sh/ Looks like we're averaging ~100 YABS runs per day, which is quite a…

Will work fine. That CPU doesn't have Quick Sync anyways, so you wouldn't have benefitted from the dummy plug. Edit: ohh wait, I see it comes with an old GPU. The dummy plug is only useful for iGPUs on CPUs. If that card is supported, Plex may be able to use it for hw transcoding. But given the age of the card, CPU might…

I really like Apache Guacamole, which is browser (HTML5)-based instead of needing a client installed. I have a couple local Windows VMs that I use as remote desktop and other stuff. Guac still uses RDP to access the Windows boxes, but acts as the middleman. I run the Guacamole web interface on a home web server, which…

Happy Easter! Whatcha cookin'? Got shrimp, chicken, mushroom, onion, bell pepper, and zucchini kebabs going on the grill. Chicken was marinated in a beer & spice concoction that my wife threw together. Shrimp are seasoned with "old bay".

I use a sponsored ProxCP instance. It's pretty solid and makes node/VM management a piece of cake.

That's some flawless, big-brain logic right there. With that said, I'm proud to announce I'll be selling LowEndSpirit accounts for the low, low price of $2/mo. (don't worry, Ant, I'll pass along 25% of the proceeds minus taxes). Tell your friends.

It's okay. SSDNodes has been running the same "72 hours sale" for the past three years.

SETI may be shutting down, but if anyone has spare computing power and wants to donate their resources towards a worthy cause, Folding@home is taking up the COVID19/SARS-COV-2 fight. https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/10/covid19-update/ Folding@home is very similar to SETI, in that it's using volunteered and distributed…

Small update pushed to the repo to address some fio interoperability issues with the pre-compiled binary. New fio binary is being compiled with the "--disable-native" flag so that generic qemu/non-AVX CPUs don't throw an error.

LES users are allowed to apply, of course. Website text has already been updated a few days ago. Application might need tweaked in a couple spots.

Also, I'm happy to report that the AlphaVPS-sponsored node has been extended by an additional year! ????

Lol! Thankfully VirMach is good people and have treated us well -- they're like the rubber glove between me and CC COVID-19 ;)

Totally legit. Pretty crazy, right? They transitioned to encrypted SSDs in the second half of last year.

This isn't surprising for gov (and sometimes military) systems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (or ever get funds to upgrade it). The US was using floppy disks for control of it's nuclear arsenal systems up until just a few months ago.

Need something with high performance obviously, so I'll write it up in Julia so we can run it on an HPC. <bigbrain.jpg>
