@Freek may be able to help?

Is hourly billing a must?

We add aaaa:bbbb:cccc:dddd:eeee:ffff:gggg:1/96 as an IP onto an interface on the host. Create an IP Pool and fill in the first part of the "Generate IPv6" section with the details from the /96 and set the gateway/etc. We always leave the "Generate subnets" bit blank as the /64 side per client is all done manually. It adds…

Interesting read. My ISP does a similar thing, a /64 for ND with a separate /48 for PD. We assign a random IPv6 address from a /96 when the VM is deployed, with a /64 routed to be available to the VM - although the /96 and each /64 come out of the same "larger" range (except the Helsinki Storage as each /64 comes from a…

Should be able to help out in London if thats any good.

If it's a remote system there might not be "direct" VNC access. Some VMs use VNC via a management panel relay host.
-
Hmm, just tried using a netinstall ISO with skipped network config and I get the following:
-
Aah I was just using the netinstall ISO via VNC.
-
First provider for web hosting was Servage.net First VPS was with Bytemark UK. First dedi was @Clouvider if I remember correctly after discovering LET (still got it too).
-
Odd. I only have the netinstall ISO uploaded on the proxmox node that has an "odd" network setup and need a pointtopoint setup, so there must be a way to continue without networking?
-
Last time I had this I just finished the install without connectivity then added the specific network config once installed and modified the apt lists to use the correct address. apt-get update and the add anything missing that wasn't installed the first time.

How close to to the IH offer is the budget?
-
Is it to do with the main LES site not the forum? I didn't notice anything on the forum so I looked there and it does some affect to load content when scrolling which seems new?
-
This was my point. Most people I know who want to give hosting their own site a go have never heard of a cpanel/directadmin/etc. They just want to click some self explanatory buttons and their site works. I'm more experienced with DirectAdmin so I lean towards that - but if it's a system we're managing ourselves instead of…
-
My first "panel" I used was with servage.net - which was straight forward enough to use but I believe it isn't based on cpanel. Most non-techy people I know who would want to try hosting their own site just want an easy way to do it, they've no "name" in their heads that the panel must be.
-
While I agree with that, when I first started with web hosting a lot of the hosts I tried were using custom panels - these may have been frontends that used cpanel backend or simply themes, but it wasn't until after I started playing with VMs that I came across cPanel itself. A few of the clients we have have come from…

There's a checkbox in Virtualizor "Disable network configuration" - if that's not checked each time the VPS is rebooted Virtualizor will attempt to reset the network settings (incase the end user has made a mistake/changed something). I've seen similar issues where having "Enable VGA" turned off has caused something…

In my experience unless a worldwide audience is the target then if its a UK site for UK people and hosted in UK/EU then cloudflare just adds another layer to potentially slow stuff down.
-
Ah sorry you mentioned Hetzner Cloud so assumed it was a VPS.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like you're comparing shared hosting with a VPS? I don't know the specific details of the site but I'd be interested to see it - we look after and optimise a few sites for managed clients and as an example TTFB 94ms, FCP 325ms, LCP 529ms for a Wordpress site (although I don't know the…
-
Definitely. But at the same time most of the EU-based hosting would be fine too. I just wouldn't go US/Asia/Aus for UK based sites.
-
My ISP (Zen, UK) is well connected but they route everything to London first - so London has low ping times, but Manchester for example (which is ~40 mile away) is similar ping as Hetzner Falkenstein as it does a long trip down to London and back North. Manchester: ~25ms Falkenstein: ~28ms However, London is about 10ms…
-
Yeah I'd agree with that - you're more likely to be marked down from an SEO/usability point if the website takes 3 seconds to load due to poor code/optimisation than losing 5ms if it's in Germany
-
I'm no expert from an SEO point of view but unless it's the other side of the world then hosting in Europe for the UK has no noticeable slowdown in terms of speed. More likely to be effected by how well the website performs.

We can do: * 1 core * 1gb ECC RAM * 512gb HDD * 5tb transfer @ 1gbps * 1 x IPv4, /64 IPv6 * Hetzner Finland location * £4/month (ex VAT if applicable) - Order (Full Range) We do offer a 256gb plan but it comes with 512mb RAM so NextCloud might be a little slow depending on usage. We can also setup NextCloud for a one off…

Thanks for the mtnion @ehab We could do the spec you need in Hetzners Finland DC - these are HDD based they've got good IO (I'll dig out a YABS if it helps). I can't get this into 10eur/month budget though, so if you can be a little flexible then perfect - you'd be looking at £10.50/month = approx 12.40eur.
