It seems like there is quite a big fuss about snap in 20.04: HN: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS’ snap obsession has snapped me off of it https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23052108 https://jatan.blog/2020/05/02/ubuntu-snap-obsession-has-snapped-me-off-of-it/

Now I really am going to have to look at weechat. Thanks @flips! The "suffering" might mostly be from the point of view of users of closed source products which sometimes install more easily than free products. So maybe closed source users see "a lot of suffering" in getting open source stuff up and working. So I was…

This promotion has expired, so the link in this thread no longer will work. Another LES-exclusive promotion is coming soon! Thanks everyone!

Hey Daniel! Thanks for your kind words! Much appreciated!
-
Thanks for your kind words! I am glad to have you on my server!

Kerala sounds good! Love to visit! Thanks for the invitation! Mostly the graphics don't turn me on so much. But your .gif was different. Mesmerizing! I stared at it on my phone for several minutes. It has a real three-dimensional quality to it. Is she Kali?

I'm with you guys on the preference to suffer with open protocol/source/copyleft. :-)
-
@Ympker said: I'm sorry! I just can't resist asking whether @Ympker missed an "S." :anguished: @WSS
-
Yeah, that "dependency" thing, again. :-)
-
I am super glad you liked it Michael! I wish you the very best!

It seems you think most everybody here would like Discord and the channel would be active?

For whatever you are doing on which latency matters so much, according to the Ubuntu blog from 2015 LXC has 57% lower latency than KVM. To which I can add my impression that Ubuntu 20.04 LXC instances seem quite a bit lower latency than 18.04 instances, but I haven't made any measurements. You really might wanna try LXC…

@vyas Thanks for your comments! Worth another whole post for each of them. Proxmox seems to work fine. The technicalities underneath Proxmox include LXC, and, from the Linux kernel, cgroups and namespaces, which are what LXC manipulates. So, yes, there is way more to learn underneath Proxmox. Or, as you say, more to leave…

Glad you enjoyed the story! If you don't mind saying, where are you? Students are great! Anybody who wants to learn is very welcome! Anybody who willing to teach me also is very welcome!
-
You're welcome! Best wishes!
-
Excellent!
-
For that many you have to pay. Sorry! :-)
-
Depends how many IOPS you need. :-)
-
I used to be a Queens. :-) Then I became a Kings. :-) So you can be the King of Queens and I will be the Queen of Kings. :-) Not bad for a LESbian!
-
Haha! Exactly the same for me. Not! Glad you caught the joke! :-) From now on, we all must click everything except Ant's posts! :-)
-
Wow! So glad you are here @Iroshan464! I'm gonna have to be honest and tell you that I've missed you a lot! I loved having you using my server. You introduced me to Wireguard. And lots more. Your post actually made me teary. Thank you so much! Please continue to keep in touch! And, of course, you're welcome back on any of…

Vyas, thanks for appreciating the details I posted! I've been reading your stuff in detail, too, though I haven't posted much. I need to ask you a question. :-) If you don't mind saying. :-) And if I and others here won't mind hearing. :-) :-) What is it about the perspective of my post which is not yet familiar?
-
Everywhere else it's good to avoid clicking. :-) Here on LES, the rule is "Click for sure, every time!" :-)
-
Thanks so very much for your kind words! You are a very nice guy. So am I. Might have something to do with mutual influence upon us by a certain city located east of MuNYC. :-)

DO/Vultr were running a shared kernel system on KVM. A quick Google search didn't get me much either on the concept of a shared kernel on KVM or on the fact that DO/Vultr were doing this. Can anybody please point me at more information on either the concept or the fact, or both? Thanks!
-
Haha! Yup, that's right! :-)

When I read this thread's title, I thought, "Shit, how can he do that?" Well, now I know, cuz I clicked. :-)
-
@Fiberhub-Billy Thanks for your willingness to quote! I definitely would say "Sure!" but none of the other LES folks except @willie have as yet suggested to me that they might want to join. Nevertheless, I do look forward to doing something like this in the future! Meanwhile, I wish you all the very best!

Great idea Willie! Maybe I could manage it? So, maybe we could get a LES cabinet somewhere? I have an offer of a free 42U cabinet with redundant 20 amp 208 volt power and 1Gbps on a GigE. For this offer, I need somebody who has their own ASN and address space, knows how to run BGP, and will install a "real router" (Cisco,…

@tester4 Maybe you might want to take a quick peek at https://checkservers.ovh/.
