Ain't nobody gonna compile their own kernel for a tiny VPS in 2020 -- except for you!
-
My two cents: I would say at least 64 MB on OpenVZ 7 and at least 128 MB on KVM, otherwise it would be too much of a pain for the user ...
-
Okay, yes, that's small!
-
Just curious: is the container OpenVZ 7? If so, then FreeBSD wouldn't run anyway, would it? FreeBSD has a package manager. Indeed, if I'm not mistaken, it offers a choice of two package managers. How little RAM? I think that apt/Debian can manage with as little as 128 MB on KVM.

@sonic, @Daniel Thanks. Yes, I was aware of OVZ6 support. I was interested in whether KernelCare supports the OVZ7 kernel. Perhaps I should have clarified this, but the topic of this thread is OVZ7. I'm still wondering, though: I can't seem to find the OVZ7 kernel on https://patches.kernelcare.com/#All%20Kernels/ . But…
-
Why "apparently"? Do you have a reference? (It's a sincere question.)
-
Just curious: is KernelCare available for the OpenVZ kernel?

I wonder what words of wisdom Ivanka imparted to the audience ...

Here are two Geekbenches for Free Range Cloud's New Year's special (see https://talk.lowendspirit.com/discussion/comment/12572/#Comment_12572 ). This VPS is in Amsterdam. * v4: https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/15093695 * v5: https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/922825

The single-core score isn't so great, but the four vCores save it
-
That's an impressive single-core score

My votes: * on the register: UltraVPS * off the register: Spartan Host

Is it the same provider in the case of the two instances that you describe above? In any case, your points are well-taken: in principle, there are a number of variables that play a role. In my answer above, I was implicitly assumIng the same provider and comparable nodes, the main factor of variation being potentially…
-
On average, probably yes, but this may not be the case at any given moment, depending on what one's neighbors are doing at that moment (but I suspect that PHP-Friends will keep an eye out for CPU abusers) Two dedicated cores are probably a safer bet than four shared cores
-
In this respect, like their BF special
-
Yeah, it's a great deal, but I've decided that I can't buy any further VPSes in 2019 =) (Not to mention that I got their BF special!)

No need to overreact :) The only reason that I said something was because @sonic appeared to understand your original post in the way that I did, so I just wanted to correct it for him (and perhaps for others as well), especially because netcup doesn't deduct German VAT for non-EU private customers
