Oh, I see: I may not have known about that even if I didn't live in a cave :) For some reason, in the context of your message, I thought that Dragonball was a new Ubuntu edition that I hadn't yet heard of =)

Just as a remark, YABS is pretty transparent, and it cleans up after itself. Whenever I run YABS (which isn't often), I use local binaries for fio and iperf3, so I haven't wondered about just how static the downloaded binaries would have been.

Ubuntu MATE is the best edition :)
-
Dragonball? (It's a sincere question -- I live in a cave)
-
@Not_Oles By the way, there's also this page: https://github.com/masonr/yet-another-bench-script/blob/master/bin/README.md My guess is that @Mason is using Holy Build Box in order to have a less idiosyncratic (more portable) build environment. As far as I can tell, there's no particular claim about just how static the…

Na ja, not every romance was meant to be. :) It's really good for email, I would say. :)
-
At least for now, I decided to go with the flow and to use their domains for MX and Webmail. :) In this case, Let's Encrypt isn't an issue

It's funny: I was thinking of your view (which I know :) ) when I wrote the second paragraph of my post immediately following yours :)

I bought a Webhosting plan (Webhosting 1000) for the first time during Advent in mid-December. I was a little hesitant at first, but I have to say that I like it, and for the promotional price of 0,99 € / month, it's a great deal, I think. (I've just bought a second Webhosting 1000 plan. :) ) So far, my main use of the…

What have you guys bought so far? So far, I've only bought two things: * a netcup cup (finally! :) ) * a Webhosting 1000 plan I would be tempted by RS Ostern S, but this egg is very rare, so I don't think that I'd have a realistic chance anyway!

If one can't request a custom ISO, would it be possible to ask which ISOs are currently available in SolusVM?
-
Bidding on April 4th was okay
-
So neither of you bothered to look at the time of the bid? Really?

Naturally, you're right, but several years ago, when I tried to install Debian on an old Pentium III from 1999, it was rather painful, so there are limits. I think that one can go back to machines from around 2007 without too much pain ...

I've used PHP-Friends a few times in the past, though at the moment, I don't have a service with them. They're low-key and don't advertise on forums, but they're a very good choice. Like netcup, they're more oriented towards the local German market. (I'm waiting for their next promotion. :) )
-
And just to add that it's not a "German" vs "non-German" distinction -- no one is checking a customer's nationality (or ethnicity)
-
Indeed. For ordinary email usage, MXroute is a great choice, but above, I took the OP's usage not to be ordinary email usage. (MXroute also has a limit of 300 emails per hour.)
-
It's not entirely clear what you're asking If you need to send hundreds of emails everyday, you'd do best to use a mail-sending service like Amazon SES or MailChimp

I guess that what I was trying to say is that RN know where the friendly (to them) zones are -- beyond LET/LEB, this would include HostedTalk -- and where the less friendly (to them) zones are (this would include LES). Whatever one may think of dustinc, he has a good sense of "social pulse".
-
But you shouldn't underestimate the sheer number of people in the world who want double bandwidth :)
-
I don't think that RN would venture here. RN live in such a symbiosis with LET/CC that they would not want to risk venturing away from the nest.

Well, if the word had been pop (in small letters), I probably would have thought of a fizzy drink, :) but POP (in capitals) suggested an acronym ... :)

I kept reading this as a new Post Office Protocol in Manchester -- how cool, I thought :) (I'll show myself to the door :) )

In the case of IH, I've heard that there's a trick such that if you first install an OS from a template (as opposed to from an ISO), then the CPU will be passed through. (Apparently, this is due to a bug in SolusVM.) Afterwards, you can install an OS from an ISO and you will still have the CPU passed through. (I'm not 100%…

I've never used ProtonMail, but I don't doubt that they're a very good email provider. Beyond any technical advantages (but I'm not sure that there really are any), I think that ProtonMail are also selling "peace of mind" ("We're secure, we respect privacy, we're in Switzerland"), which is a psychological advantage that…

Somehow this thread makes me think of the Chilean song El pueblo unido jamás será vencido ('The people united will never be defeated') :)

Don't spam, don't spew nonsense

It's not about security per se -- Gmail is strong on security (or they're stronger than or as strong on security as any other email provider, as far as one can tell). It's more about "your being the product", i.e., Google's automatic scanning of emails for profiling purposes ( @willie's #2 above ). The use of a non-free…
