I use whatever ships by the factory in Mint, Ubuntu, and Windows (cmd and Powershell). Also, on Windows, I sometimes use PuTTY (because the "factory" terminal sometimes refuses to work in SSH). Internet is full of screenshots, but if you …

(Quote) Don't worry, it's just a hobby, not an occupation (pun intended)!

(Quote) The Owned had always had subscription, but it was $39 until this increase. I think you'll need the subscription in order to get the new version to install, if you decide to.

(Quote) I wrote in greath length about that state of mind (and running business) on my blog. https://blog.bikegremlin.com/1122/zeitgeist/ I see it everywhere when I scratch the surface, it is how practically everything is run nowadays, it only dif…

(Quote) Awww. Thanks - appreciate it. <3 Fair to note that even though "extra storage" from that link is maxed out, but if I understand correctly, the link should also have granted you an extra 10 GB of storage (please correct me if …

(Quote) Yup - put that right at the start of the article - and notified Filen.io as a bug report, in case it is an honest mistake. Red flag IMO.

Updating this, while I'm sobering up from last night. Finally did some proper testing instead of just theorising over beers. In detail notes and test results: https://io.bikegremlin.com/38871/filen-io-testing-and-notes/ TL/DR: * Works fine f…

(Quote) Macrium Reflect is GUI for whole system images. Subscription only now, unfotunately. Acronis too - subscription only too. FileZilla if he wants to only copy files to a storage (Hetzner Storage Box is not expensive).

Thanks. So, I'd have to self-host it - and they list some prices for self hosting (that is confusing). Sounds crazy. Fuck it. I'll go with a bicycle. It's good for health and for the environment. And yeah - Teamviewer did what Anyde…

(Quote) LOL. Good one. :) Serbia is a Windows country (there was even some official Microsoft partnership at the start of the century). Practically everyone I know uses Windows only.

(Quote) Photos work fine on browser and phone. My main use for Pcloud is sharing photos with family. :) Pcloud encrypted "Crypto folder" is slow - seems like it's throttled, since encryption happens on my browser, with a good PC and…

(Quote) I've been testing it for a few months. Haven't had problems for what I use it: storage of data. I could even browse photos via phone - directly from the app, but I hardly ever need that (and pcloud is a lot better for that). This …

@Ympker - last chance for this lifetime! LOL :) Filen.io https://filen.io/hub/black-friday-2025-the-final-return-of-pro-lifetime-plans/ Prices of the previous Black Friday: (Image) Based on the announcing that this is the last lifetime, and …

(Quote) 870 should be slightly faster - and hopefully the same durability.

(Quote) 860 EVO has served me well (still going strong). Haven't tried the 870 EVO. Went the M.2 NVMe route after the 860.

Keeping an eye out for a filen.io and pcloud.com lifetime discount. Both if possible, for a not-huge amoun of storage. Just to test both a bit more and see how it works out for my use case.

(Quote) The Good Cloud website has links that lead to just their "blog page" instead of to where they are expected to. That doesn't look very promising. To see and compare prices also seems to require a bit more clicking on the site.…

(Quote) For context: my reply was related to the option of one of installing Nextcloud on their own, in a shared hosting environment (in general). If a provider offers Softaculous with shared hosting plans, one could also try the Softaculous' …

@AlwaysSkint and @SGraf - it is fair to note that the reseller/shared hosting providers I use offer SSH, and that is very helpful at times (not just for Nextcloud). Without SSH, I am not sure how my install would have fared.

(Quote) Hetzner's managed Nextcloud looks like a good option in terms of both money and time: https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/ (Quote) One of the reasons for posting here was to hear if there are wiser and perhaps simpler alterna…

Keep calm and love capitalism.

(Quote) That may sound good, but there are a few buts: More rules does not improve stuff - it often just gets abused (people finding loopholes). In a similar way our etiquette policy states "don't be a dick", provider tag policy is &…

(Quote) That is a variable that depends on the customer, price, and the intended use. What may not be acceptable to you, may be to someone else. We encourage feedback and reviews (so all the LESbians know what kind of service to expect), but we don…

(Quote) Fixed that quote - the text layout made it seem like I wrote it. :)

(Quote) This is the Low End - so while high quality is an admirable goal to strive for, many customers and providers are quite happy with less than perfect quality at bargain prices. You can show up to a Sunday league match and expect the game to n…

(Quote) Those are some suggestions to consider. Note: we must all be aware of the fact that we can't force providers to offer the quality of service that we require - we can only choose which providers' services we are using.

(Quote) For reasons beaten to death, we've decided to draw the line at CC. I think that was (is) a good call. (Quote) I think it was right to draw the line there. Same goes for a certain purple hosting provider. We may disagree on where the …

(Quote) My thoughts aloud: (Quote) Probably, but still, a fraudulent provider should not have a provider tag. On the other hand, apart from frauds and other means of braking the forum rules, a provider should not have their tag removed (without a v…
