Any idea what providers will be affected?

Looks like folding@home is swamped by the interest...no more project available temporarily. Alternatively check out BOINC / world computing grid - same concept
-
People are discovering that it's no good at it's last credible purpose - store of value - either. Blockchain is a great concept. Bitcoin is not.

Always thought that reselling stuff is weird. I don't want to deal with some random
-
Pretty sure the standard unix search stuff is optimised to death so I'd probably try to find a way to turn this into text files
-
Both are terrible at performance per watt. Don't get me wrong they're great - I've got about 4 raspberries and some other SBC...but not on that particular metric. Would dockerize where possible - less overhead

Check out subreddit /r/homelab ...full of exactly this. As burble says electricity and noise is gonna be an issue But no don't think you can run multi-IP from home easily. Most ISPs won't sell you more than a 1 fixed IP gigabit with low contention. And those will generally not permit resale

Same as comparable Intel after deducting hit for vulnerabilities. Don't really care what it says on the tin...I just want good performance without any super hairy vulnerabilities.

lol. You know someone's job is serious business when they have a button like that
-
Would anyone use that though? I'm personally a little wary of mirrors hosted by randoms. torrents don't have that issue
-
Pity. Oh well - was worth a try Thanks all

Highly recommend checking out BOINC instead, and among that the World Community Grid project. Goes towards a blend of good stuff - medical cures, clean energy etc. For phones and tablets there is also Dreamlab - vodafone sponsored project - crunches similar stuff while your phone is charging overnight. You can also deploy…

I mean it is finance. The debits & credits worked the same in 1990 as they do today. Airlines & booking agents are also still using a terminal like system. (Called Amadeus I believe). Much of the stockmarket run via bloomberg terminal...it's called terminal for a reason. Sometimes it's just legacy network…

No I told you so, but yeah didn't seem like a freelancer heavy crowd

Throw one of the popular free caching plugins on there. Did that while loadtesting a WP site...dropped CPU usage to near zero ...don't recall which one I used, but one of the popular caching ones. Was actually surprised how effective it was

Been looking into this as well. Ideally looking for a git driven solution, but no real luck yet
