  • And glowy threads with dinosaurs on (which I'm sure symbolises ... something?) always have the theme's "unread" background, even when they're read - which persists even if you turn the karma glowy stuff off.

Either bookmark a post (The star) or go to edit profile and then "Notification preferences" on the right, if I am not understanding you please provide more detail its been a long day :)

I don't see menu at profile edit, I can't access notification preferences from the UI

I used to have email notifications for comments in my threads, now I don't. That's a bug.

However, I do now see the previously missing notification in the notification list, including yours. Still, no email.

Lots of minor issues, you get that on an 8 year release cycle :)

I feel like I am getting a bit of hate for not being the Michelangelo of design, fair enough but I also said nothing is fixed and everything can change, I have always said that and it still stands.

    Notes.

    Drafts - broken.
Karma flair - reverse defaults, set to off.
Theme buttons - move back to edit profile.
    Logo - overlapping on mobile
Colours - need more contrast and 'new post' pills back to yellow.
Generally - lots of small layout tweaks.
    Image upload - permissions
Image upload - require minimum karma or account age.

I will start working on all of this on Monday.

Sorry it was not perfect first try, it's hard to mark your own homework.

  • These glowing colourful lights/avatars with dark background make me wanna say Happy Diwali .
These would look really good with snow effect during Christmas/December.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

  • @AnthonySmith congrats on releasing v2! I know it's been hard work :) People are always apprehensive about change, but it seems like most things have been well received!

The design stuff, it's just difficult UX in my opinion. Only real sticking points were the glowing halos around avatars, and the thread colouring making it hard to scan for new threads. I'm not sure what the colour bar represents to be honest, maybe make it a coloured indicator, or just a line at the top of each post instead?

Either way, great work! I always feel bad reading your responses, I feel like you're taking it too personally :) Thanks for doing far more than just keeping the lights on around here! I love the ideas you've introduced :D

  • The new design is a bit distracting indeed. I think it'd be better to turn it off by default for new visitors.

Also, I would like to correct my previous statement: The karma system can easily be exploited to run campaigns against unwanted members or competitors. After all, if you drop to -25 karma points, you get banned or locked out. Of course, this doesn't affect users who have a lot of points, but there are also many smaller ones who can easily be eliminated this way. I just wanted to share this as food for thought. Maybe I misunderstood something here, too. Sry.

Might wait and see how it goes in practice (give it the benefit of the doubt).

@AnthonySmith only those who never do any work can never make any mistakes. Good to see you trying to improve stuff. Take any reported problems as help with polishing it. :)

In this rare occasions I guess you will message support team to get unbanned manually. Providers even could get like +50 karma for the start?

Like always to any kind of 'automation' there are pros and cons and I think pros (aka members straight up banning spammers before even mods wake up) outweigh the cons.

I believe Reddit automatically ignores quick successive downvotes from the same user against another user. Perhaps something like that could be feasible here in the future :)

This? It's linked in Edit Profile as Notification Preferences for me.

    Okey, new bug!

When you in-line, quick quote part of the post the karma level gets put into username for quote.
    For example:

    turns into AnthonySmithPlatinum said. Platinum!

    > [@AnthonySmithPlatinum said](/discussion/comment/237779/#Comment_237779): Lots of minor issues

This also happens with karma flair set to totally off.

  • My browser is shaking 🫨

    Nice updates

  • @AnthonySmith what's the difference between level 3 and level 4 of the karma slider? Looks almost the same to me, just the "Platinum" tag disappears...

Also, 4 position slider is never a good option. Usually we deal with "toggles". So if it's 4 positions, a dropdown would have been better...

I speak fluent sarcasm and broken logic. | I would agree with you, but thæn we’d both be wrong.

  • And there is something wrong with drafts. It doesn't clear even after posting. The "draft" is there the next time i try to post...

You have to have karma to use karma and you can only give more than 1 point (maximum 10+1) you cant remove more than 1.

They should; we also never had caching on the old forum. It turns out it was always an issue in code; it was just hidden by the lack of local caching.

  • @AnthonySmith take it easy man. I know how difficult it is when new changes do not meet everyone's expectations. Keep a list visible to everyone (to avoid repeated reports about same thing) and keep checking through the list slowly. No one expects a fix today or by this weekend. If it gets too much, take a VirMach and come back next month

I speak fluent sarcasm and broken logic. | I would agree with you, but thæn we’d both be wrong.

  • just picking one line out of here:

@AnthonySmithPlatinum said: Sorry it was not perfect first try, it's hard to mark your own homework.

absolutely NO NEED to apologise! it is your project and you are the only one really working on it.

you cannot (and should not) please everyone, even later on. and that is totally fine! some will churn, some will join, that's just the lifecycle.

take your time to adjust whatever is found broken or not to your liking. if on top of that you want to change things because they did not turn out as expected or you want to please more people, that of course would be awesome :-)

TL;DR; thanks for your work and efforts, much appreciated!

  • also some additional input:

it seems that drafts somehow may partially be saved/stay saved, even if the post has been sent already. noticed that on my phone and now in browser as well when writing the last posts.

I'd suggest to remove the styling options/buttons from the nav bar, at least for registered users. they only clog up the space with something a member will rarely touch, after they found their most liked setting.

I am going to wait until Monday morning to let everyone have their say, open a fresh page on my notepad, write everything down, then start work on them.

I fucked up by touching the themes first; it then became a thorn in my side for every other change that then had to be checked against the changes, so I started to ignore the themes as a priority, and kind of had "That will do, lets just make sure people can turn it off and i will fix it later" as my get out of jail free card, well, maybe that was not the best attitude from me.

Also, testing as an admin and not using caching on the dev version was fucking stupid; you live and learn, this is NOT what I do remember :) I am going to make basic mistakes in the process; end-user account added to test for further development.

  • no worries, this is no fuck up at all. it's bringing people back to engage and interact. everyone will play around with it for a while, eventually weed out, what they don't want or need, while you continue changing and improving.

live real feedback at this stage is exactly what you need and best thing you can get right now. dust will settle quickly and you can still steer in any direction you see fit.

If you up or downvote someone using the arrows, you do not lose or gain any karma, they do gain or lose 1 point, if you use the "Give" function then that costs you however much you send them (maximum is 10)

So up/down for the voter, is basically just how you feel, the person you up/down vote gains or loses karma based on your vote.

    Make sense?

Hmm, I was kind of moving more towards not treating you any differently rather than having a separate group. What's your thoughts @Not_Oles @Neoon? Please also tag anyone else this applies too.
