LES Karma (Thanks replacement) A reminder on how it works

You can:

Basics

  • Upvote a thread or post
  • Downvote a thread or post

The cost of a basic upvote/downvote to you is essentially 0; it's just expressing your opinion
The cost to the OP or commenter is that they get +1 or lose -1

Good Karma can be used in multiple ways here and with more to come: revealing gated offers, the karma store and soon to buy promotion squares and to give to others that make some effort on any post or thread.

If a thread gets sufficient downvotes, it auto-sinks; if it continues to get downvotes, it gets hidden.

This essentially allows the community to self-moderate what they see; if you collectively don't like something, downvote it, please, as I have started doing on the obviously AI-generated posts.

User Impacts

  • if a user is at 0 karma, they have a pleb badge and a grey avatar and name, a visual representation that they are not activley involved in much or new.
  • if a user gets to -10 they get auto wanred to improve
  • if a user gets to -25 they are automatically banned.

The community essentially manages who is here and what they want to see.

Dynamics:

  • Up/down vote of OP weight = 1
  • Up/down vote of comment on post weight = 0.25

This, for those who have the full karma animations enabled, is what powers this and how bright things get and how the post is coloured and highlighted; it also impacts which threads show up in the right-hand menu.

Again, this is all part of self modderation, its much quicker to downvote shit than to report it, it makes life easier for everyone, and everything is based on group opinions, not single ones, both positive and negative.

It is the best tool to actively steer the collective community direction; the power is in your hands.

I hope that clarifies. I have been meaning to post this for a while, but after a number of PM's and reports recently it is apparent that a large number of people have missed or skipped the original explanation (in fairness, that thread was trashed with bug reports)

Question: if a user gets to -25 and banned, what happens if later someone upvotes a post and they get to -24? Will they be unbanned or is it permanent? Are there any grace periods?

    I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.

They remain banned currently. the grace period is between -10 and -25 given the level of activity, that is not likley to be fast, but can be tweaked if it is.

  • By a bad comment you can be banned, maybe only because an argument istnt tolerated by others. Along there is nothing critical and always friendly to the community.
Someone could heavily downvote every OP thread by specific user to deceive the system.

Yeah possible, we can deal with that if it happens and ban the person doing this, it's very visible to admins

  • Will plebs be blind to offers because they lack a karma threshold?

Nope only if the person posting the offer uses karmagate specifically, which they could also set at a minimum 500 to be able to see it if they wanted

  • Interesting system. . .

Most people treat AI like gospel. Those people fail.
Treat AI like a drunk intern with occasional good idea, And you will succeeds.

As you took the time to provide feedback and engaged, I evolved your account by gifting 10 of my own karma :)

I will get rid of the strike through and maybe rename pleb probably can be taken the wrong way I agree.

  • Is karma the same as the "points" on your profile page? If so, it might be better to rename as such.

  • We currently have over 3000 karma
If we spend 1000 on the last Flan, we would be 1000 closer to the ban.
Hence, we have to resist the urge of buying the Flan.

All that matters is that you remain cash flow positive. You also don't need to buy brand-name badges, you can settle for the generic budget ones like the rest of us working class

maybe @AnthonySmith considers to let people give minus karma as value as well (obviously still costs). then you'll only need a few members with high amount to downvote you in the hundreds to get closer to your target.
