I think its more about the cost of the service than the specs. For me, for 2GB RAM, it should be around $20/year or less. For 1GB RAM, around $10/year. I prefer 2GB RAM for general purpose, even if I could squeeze it into 1GB, it would swap a lot…

Not running 32 bit on a vps anymore (back in the day I used to, though). I do have a NanoPi Neo at home, a small, relatively inexpensive alternative to a raspberry pi. It is 32 bit only (armv7), 512mb ram, 100mbps ethernet. No wifi or display. I…

This looks pretty good. Is it a custom setup that you wrote (or had done)?
-
You can get a 6-9 digit numeric .xyz domain at spaceship for $0.67 per year.

(Quote) Ah, I'm not using a mouse (no scroll wheel), so I'm looking for the +/- buttons.
-
Have you found any way to decrease and increase the zoom on the map?
-
I usually copy/paste from another good setup. But I don't worry about it, anyway. I have gotten locked out a few times. It can still be fixed with a vnc console.
-
I often find the blog notification wrong. For example, I've already read 2 of them, and it says there are 2 new, but when I click on it, there is only 1 new post.

Some may specifically like Dallas or central-US, but for many it would be a compromise. They'll want either east coast or west coast, New York and Los Angeles being popular. That's what I'd recommend. If you can only have one locat…

(Quote) I do use wireguard, with unbound + blocky for dns. Those self-hosted things are not just about shielding an ip address, though. They are lighter-weight with a much more pleasant interface.
-
(Quote) A public instance for the self-hosted stuff? On my main machines, no, they're private. But I run some public instances separately (307200.xyz). The public instances run on 1gb ram.

Several websites, nginx, php-fpm, postfix, dovecot, opendkim, nsd, unbound, asterisk, vsftpd, wireguard, shadowsocks, and bunch of "self-hosted" type things: 4get, searxng, quetre, anonymousoverflow, rimgo, redlib, binternet. I've g…

You could just make the only other requirement a new post, too (instead of the questions).
-
Maybe with the new checks in place: (Quote) That would be enough to just create the new user. If they start posting spam, the down votes or reporting should be able to hide it until they're blocked.
-
Since they're not a member yet, are they allowed to post in the thread?

(Quote) Looks good now, thanks.

(Quote) When I try to upvote your post, I get: "You need at least 25 karma to vote on new member intros."

Nice work, being able to switch between all the themes from one place easily. Looking forward to seeing the vBulletin themes flattened out with all the categories on one page, like regular Vanilla. You might try pure white for the text on the vBul…

(Quote) Makes sense, thanks.

So if you upvote or downvote a post, you get one point taken away from yourself? Is that the way it works? Do you only get points from upvotes, or are there other ways to gain points?
-
(Quote) I see, I still have to go to the profile to switch to the old themes, but it doesn't require the password now.
-
(Quote) I cleared the cache and LES cookies and logged in again, still the same for me. It just has the vBulletin themes.
-
It would be nice if the "More themes" icon on the top would let you select from all of the themes, without having to go back into the profile and enter your password to change back to the old ones. Is there a way to get a flat view of the…

Check other's experiences and reviews. Check inbound/outbound routing/mtr. Hopefully they have a looking glass. Check connectivity with bgp.tools. Run a ping check script for at least 24 hours, preferably longer, to check for latency and packe…

(Quote) It looks like GreenCloud has some VDS available in New York, also.

(Quote) I'm using Alpine, and I didn't do anything special to statically configure the link-local address. I think that is auto configured. This is my /etc/network/interfaces: auto loiface lo inet loopbackauto eth0iface eth0 inet static…

(Quote) It's working for me.

I like Thunderbird, but I prefer to self-host my email. Except for outgoing; I use mxroute for that.
-
(Quote) Ah, got it, thanks.

Just curious, is there a way to clear the announcements? (Image) The "keep your recipes up to date" one is always marked new.

GreenCloud's sale plans are usually Annual or Triennial, not monthly. I have a $60/3 year in Hong Kong and a $22.50/year (1TB storage) in Phoenix. They have some extra-good deals in their sale thread, but they're limited and go really fa…

Do the Warsaw and Sydney locations have IPv6 now, or still IPv4 only?
-
(Quote) Same for me, IPv6 was down in Vint Hill several days ago, and I was able to fix it by removing IPv6 and adding it back. I've got a cron job that checks IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity from a remote system every 10 minutes, so I'll noti…

(Quote) You might have deliverability issues with an xyz domain wherever you go. Maybe it would be even worse with the cheap numeric xyz's (I have one, too, but not for email).

If plans for LES are contingent on ad revenue, you could also just sell ad space directly to providers. The ads might be more relevant, too. But I imagine you've thought of that.
