The spirit is alive. Woo Hoo! Now to somehow rekindle that minimalistic (anti) greed to see how we can do more with les(s). Somewhere along the way, we've all become spoilt brats with more and more resources to do less (not to mention all the bloatware that seems to be evolving... just take 10x more resources to do the…

I seem to prefer xrdp over *vnc as it is easier to setup/manage and to connect to (since a vanilla RDP client will do). Performance wise I don't have any detailed comparisons, but from what I remember (initially when I was choosing one over the rest), xrdp seemed to be the best overall. So what I wanted is: 1. Easy setup…

@Andrei - Thank you for your generous offers. Public Key: 910c875893703f90d93cf0eeff076a82

It seems that in general, anything bad at the IPv6 level will pretty much effect the entire /64. So it's nice to have an extra /64 to avoid headaches and keep everything separate ala IPv4. I guess this could be a use case but I didn't really think of this at all. Depending on the RAM, this could also help but realistically…
-
Hi @AnthonySmith - could you allocate a /64 IPv6 with the additional IPv4 (effectively the VPS will have 2 x IPv4 and 2 x /64 IPv6)?
-
Get well soon and I hope the forced downtime actually rejuvenates you and you bounce back to much better than before.
-
@cociu + @uptime - I can confirm that I have received details of my KVM VPS. I am yet to try out anything but hope to do so this week. I will be sure to post updates after I get things setup. Thank you again for this and here's to the new winners now that there are more zeroes to play with and win...

So no IPv6 for France NVMe? Or IPv6 only if you also add HDD?
-
Right. I think though that there were plans to slowly support it in other locations as well. France seems to have IPv6 now - I think that's new.
-
@HostDoc - if a location's LG has IPv6 does it mean VPS's there can get IPv6? Is it a /64 by default? What about reverse DNS for IPv6?
-
@seriesn - a few questions for you: a) The poisson promo code is throwing an error (requires an active service) - a bit confused because you've clarified that it should work for new customers as well? b) Will LA have IPv6? Also, will you be supporting Reverse DNS for IPv6? (I think you've already mentioned that rDNS for…

If you can get cpu pass through, I'm pretty sure you'll see the AES benchmark jump to close to 2s assuming that there's no (artificial) throttling going on. Going by the frequency, my guess is that the CPU is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2450L 0 @ 1.80GHz Everything else looks spot on (and those IOPS are great as well). As for…
-
I feel quite comfortable with 3 days and you have my vote (not that it matters!) as I think it is a fair compromise for everyone concerned.
-
This has been a very hard one - there are many equally top notch providers on that list (and I have VPSs with many of them), so in keeping with the spirit of things here, Low End, I will cast my vote for MrVM for his wonderful NAT bundles (I doubt one can go any lower than that, resource or price wise. And every time I…
-
I hope that the slowness is temporary due to benches or other factors and that things will return to acceptably normal levels for HDD type IO (I hope at least >60MB/s with decent IOPS).
-
The only reason I bring up the slightly longer wait is that it is not very clear when we'll hit that magic number and so folks can't really anticipate the draw. I know it can get tricky on balancing between the now-ready vs the lucky-yet-absentees but I hope that the wait will not inconvenience people that much. I'm…
-
As a previous (miraculously lucky) winner, I do feel this maybe a little too harsh on the winners. Sometimes a day or two may go by before folks catch up here and I think it is only fair that they be given a little more time to react (and take things seriously enough to realize that they did win something). Maybe cut a…

@mikho - I have a couple of extra NAT VMs (128MB, paid for with ~80 days left) that I am more than happy to donate for a good cause to @tetech (or anyone else) to help with templates and other such use cases. Is it possible to either (a) transfer my VPS to them for them to use or (b) cancel the VPS and you just give them…

I suggest you keep an eye on Netcup (yes DE, but you mentioned you're open to DE too). If you can snag one of their VPS deals (billed annually at roughly €20/year which works out to <€2/month), you'll have everything you need plus a very generous (unusable?) 40TB of traffic a month. They're remarkably stable for the…

May the randomness (and luck) be with you (and whomsoever is up next for the lucky draw). I have to actually reread this thread a bit more carefully to figure out the goings on since I have been bestowed a great fortune cookie from @cociu. I'm just thinking if there's any gift that (keeps) giving, this is probably it!
-
Wow! Is this for real? I've not been good enough to deserve such a rich treat and I'm worried Santa is playing tricks on me. Please give me a hard kick on my backside to confirm that this is not a dream or a simulation (or a dream within a simulation). I have won something, so I must exist, therefore I am. P.S: 137 is…

Looks like you're behind CF - so I can't really ping to get a sense of latencies. No worries though (and thanks for the offer!) That will be nice. I'll wait to figure out which part of the world to colonize idle-ise next. Of course one could argue that if you are truly idling, latency doesn't matter.
-
@mikho - can you post updated looking glasses for the new locations (seems like you have Bucharest RO, Milan IT, US-New York, US-Seattle). I hope there'll be a bundle-up offer for existing bundle customers to increase their idling world dominion. I hope New York is New York City (or thereabouts) and not a certain upstate…

I have a small Atom with them (C2350) and I've not really had to depend on them for anything. From what I know their support isn't great either - so as long as you can manage on your own I think they're worth the reduced price (esp. for anything non-critical). If something fails, then plan for a longer-than-typical turn…

OK. Since there's been a cleanup, I'll do the honours of a fresh first post: Xeon L3426 1.8 GHz 4 cores 16 GB DDR3 2× 2 TB (HDD SATA) 1 Gbps Unmetered Fair Usage 1 €18.00 https://oneprovider.com/order/item/dediconf/44 From One Provider who seem to have some sort of a remnant sale going on. There are obviously other Atoms…

Thanks @AnthonySmith - I missed ordering the other day and I just caught this in the nick of time before needing to step away from the computer for a bit. Lord Ant taketh and Lord Ant relenteth (and giveth!).
-
@mikho - any love for existing bundle users to allow them to switch/add another exotic location?
-
@SmallWeb has one active I think for the next couple of days.
-
I envy you. My addiction life saving medicines are stacking up, idling very hard and I'm still struggling to name them in time before the I bag the next irresistible deal. Buy in haste...repent in leisure. I'm getting better though as the high's wear off... Of course the ubiquitous xkcd reference: https://www.xkcd.com/910/

Likely there's no AES pass through and with that enabled this should more than suffice for a very reliable and excellent storage node. Now to find some time amidst all this BF craze to actually migrate my older OpenVZ based LiteServer setup into a new KVM based one.
-
He had a bunch of posts early on LET's Nekki thread.
-
Oops - I missed ordering one as part of my NAT bundle clean out. Any hope of having one bundle spared/reserved/restocked?
