You should definitely visit the OGF thread sometime when the bulk of your problems are solved. Some of their issues might already be resolved, but there definitely seem to be quite a lot of some people complaining about not having access to their VPS for many weeks, so predating the CC incident, and getting very upset that…

Yeah, his prices are easier to understand (and cheaper) on OGF.

Honestly, this kind of openness makes me respect you more as a provider. Maybe when the dust has settled a bit you should do a blog post, or maybe even offer raindog a proper article about these logistical issues rather than his speculations.

Got to say, it's quite reassuring to see that the tone of @VirMach 's messages have changed in the last couple of days... From utter panic to having at least some left over time to worry about website design. I don't mean to sound flippant like that's an unimportant thing, on the contrary, it's reassuring because it sounds…

@bikegremlin got linked to on Hacker News! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32361648

A couple of guys have been posting a few bits of the information from here on OGF, so I guess they know a bit of what's going on. I don't think it's just this issue, it seems VirMach has been a lot freer with explanations of what's been going on with the migrations here for weeks and people here are generally supportive,…

Man, it never seems to stop for you! Good luck with it all, and remember to rest and sleep in the midst of this. At the end of the day, they're only servers, your health is more important.

Congratulations on your first post!

Yeah, I agree. They are in complete control of the price, so it's hard to use that as justification, but in any case that's unrelated to how they schedule maintenance. If they have the attitude that they can just take machines down on a whim rather than giving notice and doing it the next day, they're treating it as they…

I appreciate the fact you shared this because everything else I've heard about PHP Friends is that they're wonderful and can do no evil and I was thinking of prioritising choosing them over Hetzner when I next need a load of resources. As far as I'm concerned, there's no good justification for moving people around to a…

Try @Shakib - the Killer KVM-6C is normally $14 per month but was recently down to $120/yr for Independence Day. Has 6GB RAM and 6 super fast cores. I would have upgraded because of the great deal, but stayed with the KVM-3C which is plenty for my needs. He also has LXC-6G with 6GB but only 3 cores and LXC not KVM. But…

Is this name in any way related to the old kuro5hin.org?

Thanks! This was my first transfer and @cybertech made it really easy. I was always super envious of everyone who'd managed to grab one of these machines, so really happy I've managed to get one. I would normally share YABS, but as it was in the first post and it's probably enjoying its first rest from being YABS'd 24-7,…

When you're accessing the site you could go directly to the proxied machine though, no real reason that you have to go through CF yourself.

Just register all the domains up to a tenner, and he'll be forced to never change the prices!

A lot of mailing lists (e.g. mailman) can be configured to send out mail as the original sender but Reply-To: the list. I've never seen problems with that (but due to lazyness, someone else took over running my mailman list, so I've got no data on that from the last 5 years), but maybe the AI eventually works it out,…

I have recently transitioned from forwarding to gmail to getting gmail to collect via POP3. Overall, it has improved many cases, and mails that frequently behaved weirdly now get through fine. An example, for some legitimate mail with correct senders, gmail would sometimes accept then fail sending a spam bounce mail and…

I'd forgotten about this. Are you planning these prices for a while or just as an introductory rate?
-
BTW, on OGF, @Neoon mentioned seaweed FS a while ago that sounded interesting and might solve some of the things you're trying to solve. https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/3437916/#Comment_3437916

No, it's just your inverted colours Notts logo looks like the involucrated logo. PS welcome "back"!

Maybe let providers offer what they like, but at least every other offer has to be within the price range (and a reasonable quantity so they don't just have a limit of 1).
-
IIRC years ago DuckDuckGo was using Bing's backend when they first launched, so maybe that's still the case and would explain why both exhibit the same behaviour.

I think it's slightly ironic if it was a fork that this forum has a nice clean feel and LET looks so janky in comparison. Also nice that the conversation here is generally more civil even when it's the same people doing the chatting, although that can also be a downside as it's nice to partake in the occasionally trolling…
-
Most providers seem to solve this by highlighting the ones in the price limit but having a link to all their offers. I think if the pricing barrier increased much, a lot of providers would focus on their best offering under the limit, which would overall increase the value of the offering, but push out the real low-end…

Wow, I never though @yoursunny would be one to leak his root password on LES!

I guess you could try seeing if there are any pages in archive.org and see if they look like they'd cause you an issue.

Actually, as one of the "negative people" making comments, I actually think you would be better placed to listen to the negative opinions. When starting any endeavour, it's very easy for find people who will say it's great and much harder to find people to find the flaws in your thinking. If you have good responses to all…

80 cores for €201 sounds absolutely amazing!
