@InceptionHosting Just validating the value of "any" we're using means any of the new NVMe services, right? Not the old SSD/HD stuff? Code doesn't work when I try and put it in for one of the old KVM1024's.

It would be blackhat if he was scanning other peoples IPs. I interpreted their statement more along the lines of vulnerability testing - looking for exposed services with known exploits, etc... Something along the lines of Nessus.

https://oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa What're you going to do if California claims jurisdiction over you?

What kernel features? I was running it on some MrVM NAT instances for quite a while. Havoc's right though, don't expose them directly.

Thanks for your opinion.

If memory serves it was Slackware .. I think 0.9 ( yes, below 1.0 ). Pretty sure I still have at least some of the disks if they haven't succumbed to bit rot. This would've been early ninety's. I needed a way to do my CompSci homework that didn't require me to sit in the lab for hours at a time. "No food or drinks in the…

That IP may well have ssh running on it but it's not your NAT instance. It says this in the email you quote.

Speaking only as a happy customer, I've been able to upgrade my machines as long as resources were available. Automated, easy process.

isn't C6 EOL'ed and no more patches are being done at all? Which location is this out of curiousity?
-
Shouldn't need to - ssh port is included automagically. @coo , which location? Have you verified the ipv4 you're connecting to is what you're expecting? What command are you using to get in via ssh?

I betterlet'ed him out of existence a while ago and I have to say I haven't missed him.

After that last hellacious fsck you'd think he'd have put a different oversized UPS on each power supply.

( sigh ) I went to go look at something and his system quasi-renewed a box I marked cancel at end of billing period. It appears to have gotten confused so it applied some of my credit to it, left the 'unpaid' $0.00 invoice open, and it still has a cancel pending.

Picked up some stuff to support the project.

Depends on your interpretation. I was working for a local university department back in '96 and one of our projects was to set up our own web service, email, etc... on the then relatively new Linux. Think it was Slackware like version 2 or something. So in a sense I was my own first provider.

For the most part it is with a few caveats. 1) Install tries to put you on their Oracle Unbreakable kernel by default instead of the Red Hat compatible. UEK versioning doesn't stay stable per major version. 2) Every once in a rare while they'll change the default behavior of some random package. I think last time I saw it…

Reminds me of that old joke. "A man went to see his doctor and said, "Doctor, every time I move my arm like this it hurts. What do you recommend?" The doctor said, "Don't move your arm like that." Maybe don't nest 32 containers then?

I'm not sure how much information is available on Swedish tax forms but at least in my case it's more a concern about identity theft. I agree with you that I don't care who knows what. ( My opinion ) Most of the people truly trying to hide them is usually because they're paying less on their six and seven figure incomes…

He introduced himself to the community by being kind of an ass. Why is this a surprise?
-
Having had my identity stolen twice over the years I'm going to say yes because it's an annoying amount of forms to fill out and phone calls to make. Two of my least favourite things - paperwork and people. ;-)
-
Well there's trust and then there's trust. Do I trust them enough to keep my mp3 collection there? Sure. Do I trust them enough to keep my unencrypted tax returns there? No. The consequences for being wrong are higher in the second scenario.

Never pass up an opportunity to get a shot in.
