Congrats to the Top Providers! Having services at multiple providers with LES presence, it was a bit difficult to choose only one. To the providers around here, even if your company isn't the most voted, thanks for offering solid products and great service.

2670 - from the latest Joy of Tech comic
-
With internet services excluded, the uses that come to mind are: * computational - e.g. BOINC/SETI@home, contributing VPS CPU/disk/bandwidth towards research * mesh networks - e.g. a secure scuttlebutt pub, something for censorship circumvention, but the target audience apparently doesn't know about (can't learn to use?)…

* LES provider: BuyVM/BuyShared * Non-LES provider: Subnet Labs Honourable mention: Servarica

Welcome to LES, masedi. :)

Besides LES: * lobste.rs - tech headlines like news.ycombinator.com * opensource.com - open source reviews/guides * MDN - web development reference * toki - searx search (switching sometimes depending on what works better) * wiktionary - thesaurus, translation

Welcome @XiNiX !

If you're still taking number suggestions: 2240 (the comic currently on the front page)

Minor thing: In a long list of thanked by people at the bottom of a post, the names expanded after clicking "Show More" are of a slightly larger font size than the ones preceding them (see screenshot, the names after "FHR").

Something like this: * In Solus/control panel: * Enable TUN/TAP (the vps may reboot). * Not sure if this step is strictly necessary, but I do it to have a memorable address. Add an ipv6 address from the provided subnet. e.g. if your subnet is 2a00:1500:60:100::/64 then one like 2a00:1500:60:100:1:2:3:4 will do. * Log into…

I've been winding down idle servers (or trying to) and didn't get anything on this year's BF/CM aside from the ServaRICA Mouse offer. However, I wanted to put in another mention to Inception Hosting for terrific service throughout the year. Renewed servers from last year's BF with solid uptime and network, works well.

Drama and speculation aside, it's a good idea to compile a list of the shell companies for the record as a buyer beware PSA. While this isn't new for old forum regulars, LEB might still get linked on reddit or other sites, milking its former reputation as a legitimate place to get cheap server deals. Of the list, I recall…

0/10 for brand creativity.

https://servarica.com/terms-of-service/ tl;dr Doesn't specifically forbid torrent software. No illegal activities (by Canadian law), no copyright or intellectual property right infringement. The sort of thing most TOS say, don't get the host in trouble, use your own discretion. What makes you say that? Some providers have…

@poisson Fwiw, you could also install OpenVPN (or other VPN server) on one of the NATs to get ipv6. Any of the popular OpenVPN install scripts on GitHub with ipv6 support will do the job. (Enable tun and assign an ipv6 address to the box from the CP, run the script. I've tried it on a LES box and it works nicely.)

They'll probably settle down again after some cancellations (buyer remorse, haha).

Try searching for "rica web" in the Quebec Enterprise Register, there should be 2 registry IDs in the results. The federal one only shows a partial result. Yeah, I saw the news articles. Supposing for a moment it is the same person, the Office of Reconsideration has since concluded he is not a threat to passengers and…

Can you share more of what you found concerning, in another unindexed thread if you prefer? Quebec's Enterprise Register shows the company was registered in 2010-09-23 as "RICA WEB HOSTING SERVICES" / "LES SERVICES D'HÉBERGEMENT DE PAGES WEB RICA". The address in the entry (ID 2266846825) matches the one in the IP range.…

Came upon this today: https://telegra.ph/Private-Internet-Access-VPN-acquired-by-malware-business-founded-by-former-Israeli-spies-12-01 If the links are credible, apparently Kape Technologies, under the previous name Crossrider, used to be an ad injector (read: malware) developer.
