Was gonna say, newpipe is great and you can intall it from f-droid.org.

Oh noes the clooouuuuud. It sounds like an attack vector in its own right?

Is Hestia the one later forked to become VestaCP? I played with Vesta a little. It had a crazily cpu-hungry installation step because of public crypto key generation. After installation though, it was fairly nice and seemed to work ok, though it had far fewer features than cpanel. That was a few versions ago and I think…

I look at it once in a while. I used to log in by reflex, but I removed the entry from my password manager so it no longer gets filled automatically and I don't know what the password is. That's less drastic than disabling/deleting the account permanently, since I could still do a password reset through email if I wanted…

This is nice. Hetzner continues to gain steam. The feature probably makes life easier for people interested in offering hosted services (databases etc.) to Hetzner users. I've sometimes thought about doing that, and this update will have me thinking about it again.

I had a 0.5TB plan with them for several years. It generally worked ok but there was drama in several areas: * The plan cost $2/TB/mo which was astounding at the time. They insisted it was sustainable and a regular offer, when it was obvious that they were losing their shirts. Of course they had to stop offering it after a…

Yeah my interest is more in identifying the necessary features of a usable system, than trying to use the code directly. Since this was written for an actual commercial host, I'd like to hope that the feature selection is meaningful, independently of whatever issues the implementation might have.

30 euro/year for 1TB, openvz, 1gb ram, 100 mbit network (gbit available for 12eur/y extra). This is ok but not spectacular these days, and the host got in some drama various times at the other place. I'm gonna pass.

Thanks for releasing this! It's a lot of code (around 21 kloc of php plus some other stuff) though I don't know how much of that is in the main app, how much is in tests, etc. I haven't looked at it at all yet, other than running wc. Separately from bugs and security issues, one thing I'd hope we can do here is make a…

Yeah I have one of those coming up for expiration/renewal. Probably not worth renewing even though it's a cute name.
-
I see, you mean you want to host other users on the server. In that case the one you mentioned is very nice, I would say. The AX61 might be a possible alternative (2x ram, 2x disk, maybe 1.3x cpu because of more cores but lower clock speed). I see you already doing something similar with an AX161 in another thread. I think…

Storage dedi in western US, comparable to the plentiful 4 core Hetzner auction servers, wondering if 1.5x Hetzner price is realistic, can probably live with 2x and much less bandwidth.

For me, ancient looking ui's mean the dev is not seduced by current shiny bloatcrap. I write ancient looking UI's and web pages all the time ;-).

Why does anyone care what HE's GUI looks like? Is there an API? Are 1984's servers in Iceland? That seems like unnecessary latency for most of us.
-
For vps I figured it would just use libvirt. For shared hosting you're saying provisioning is handled by the control panel, and the panels provide apis for that? Ok, call the api. Doesn't seem that big a deal. I'd be more concerned by handling different payment gateways and so on. Those packages out there already, do they…

If you mean it should perform the functions of cpanel etc., that's completely separate from billing. There is VestaCP and so on, nowhere near as powerful as cpanel but better than nothing. Yes obviously any billing system has to notify about unpaid invoices etc. It's not rocket science. Was there anything interesting in…

No idea if anything good is here: https://sourceforge.net/directory/business-enterprise/financial/billing/os%3Alinux/ It specifically mentions this for hosting: https://sourceforge.net/projects/solidstate/ This also finds a lot: https://github.com/search?q=hosting+billing
-
Well what do you want in a server? That one has lots of cpu, lots of ssd, and lots of ram. Do you want to pay for all that? Do you want something even more powerful, that will cost more? As always it's about your requirements. I like lots of cheap storage which means HDD. I like lots of cpu but don't care that much about…

I'd look on drupal.org or the ruby gem repo and see what is there. I know they have stuff like that but I haven't looked into specific packages. Truthfully I've never felt the need for one: several places where I worked implemented their own billing and it wasn't that big a deal. A billing system like WHM needs a ton of…
-
How many times are people willing to repeat the same mistakes? I'd go for something FLOSS come hell or high water. In the case of billing, there's not all that much any one site needs in terms of features, so there's lots of options existing or DIY. It's true that cpanel is harder to replace.
-
That's an auction server right? Doesn't seem so great to me, unless you need the nvme disk. Not so much ram, not so much cpu, there are comparable auction servers with hdd's for just over half the price last I looked. And there are the AX servers that are faster and have much more ram. Also that is not a 1 week free trial,…

Yeah I was going to say, you can fuse-mount a remote fs with one file that's an encrypted iso, then have local dmcrypt to a local mount point that lets you access individual files in the iso without having to download the whole thing. Also, even if the international peering is terrible, individual isos are rarely more than…
-
How many different distros are you talking about? Like more than 10TB? More than 100TB? Or what? Would it be enough to have (say) a primary in Germany and a mirror in Romania? If a user has crappy peering to those places, maybe there could be an impromptu CDN made of a few bottom-end VPS's? I understand the need for…

I got someone to do a simple speed test on a pi4 some time back: time echo "scale = 2000; 4*a(1)" | bc -l That computes pi to 2000 decimal places. It took 3.9 sec on a pi4 vs 9.6s on my KS-2E which has an N2800 Atom cpu, same as the KS-1 if I'm not mistaken. Then figure that the pi4 has 4 cpu cores while the N2800 has 2…

This may have more cpu power than a ks-1, or at least be pretty close. Also has SSD, though smaller than the KS-1's HDD. I tried to buy an ikoula product a year or so ago but there was some quite invasive signup process that I noped out of. I don't remember the specifics but I think it was worse than passport photo or…
-
I used Tigervnc (tigervnc.org) for this a while back. Not the greatest but it did accept pastes through some nuisance that I don't remember. I'm sure there are other decent desktop vnc clients as well. No idea about web ones though.

Is this in LOL territory? Everyone is doing that now.

Where is the US server?
