  • This is great about the storage box (and nextcloud) refresh. This is the best combination so far of affordable storage and tons of cpu in the same place. I've been using an auction dedi primarily as a storage server for years, because I occasionally have to do a big computation with some of the data. But now I'm tempted to…
  • Storagebox works nicely for my purposes, it's just on the expensive side, especially in the smaller sizes. If you want a lot of space, consider an SX series dedi. If you want less space and it's for cold backups and you don't mind it being in Quebec, Servarica still has some VPS plans in the $2/TB/month range.…
  • The EX is reasonably ok, I just wish it had ECC. The AX would need to have 2x1TB drives to be equal to my auction server in HDD space, but if I were to add drives I'd probably add something like 2x10TB. My first thought was 1x10TB with backup to a storage box but adding a 10TB drive costs half as much :O.
  • When I used storagebox a while back, I was able to get around 50MB/s to my Hetzner dedi. I remember worrying that Chia farming on Storagebox might slow Storagebox down. I think Chia is now pretty dead, so idk what effect if any there has been on Storagebox. Storagebox (unless you use the nextcloud product) doesn't seem…
  • I got an email saying people who experienced price increases with auction servers can now upgrade to an AX or EX series server with no setup fee. I'd be tempted but unfortunately the entry level AX line has 2x2TB disks while my auction server has 2x3TB. The entry level EX line has 2x4TB disks though a slower processor than…
  • I wonder if they will have to jump the price up like Hetzner.
  • The plan is still orderable on Servarica's web site. I don't know if that means it is really in stock. I have been considering it for a while, depending.
  • Thanks, smallweb is looking good. Does anyone know what is going on with.com.au domains these days? They used to be a standard thing, right? The usual registrars don't have them any more.
  • Was smallweb sold a few months ago? How is it now?
  • When will they do some 8 socket systems?
  • On a dedi it doesn't seem worth it for the tiny savings, though I might do it anyway. On the small VM's, ipv4 is a big chunk of the cost so I'm eager to save it. I think there are some technical issues they have to fix for the dedis though, and ipv6-only is not yet available for vm's. Meanwhile, ipv4 cost is about to jump…
