Did BuyVM/frantech raise prices?
in General
I don't think I got a notice or email about them raising prices but I went to pay an invoice today and it was up about 25%. I guess it kinda is what it is, but I'm wondering if they announced the price increase and it's something I missed or if this was a surprise to others.

Yes, you're at least 3 months late
That makes sense. I've noticed issues receiving their emails over the past few months - more often they're not received, and when they are, they end up in SPAM.
Might be worth logging in to your account and going to the email history section. As they use WHMCS it will probably look like this: https://my.frantech.ca/clientarea.php?action=emails

You'll have quite a lot of providers to put there on the coming months... seems to be an unfair list.
Let's go!
It's a butt hurt list. But the whole hosting industry is butt hurt now.
The real metric is whether they will reduce prices once the memory prices crash.

It's not just memory and storage prices that have gone up.
Data center costs have skyrocketed in the past year, even in data centers not well-suited for AI workloads. After years of being a buyer's market in colo, it's now a seller's market. The data center owners are setting the prices, and pushing them higher. By a lot. Not because they need to, but because they can.
Yes, most companies plan for 2 to 5 percent increases per year. This is normal and has been normal for years. Unfortunately, recent cost increases far exceed that. In some markets, we've seen rates increase 200-300%.
Add that on top of everything else that has skyrocketed - labor, hardware, cross connects, etc. and it will be incredibly difficult for most providers to hold pricing steady.
And, given that most colo agreements are multi-year agreements, it's extremely unlikely that costs will go down very quickly if the AI bubble does burst. Providers will be locked into those agreements for years to come.
