Hosthatch: Neat storage and NVMe KVM offers (4 GB RAM - 40$/2y, 16 GB RAM - 100$/2y)

edited March 2021 in Must See Deals

Some fresh offers from @hosthatch posted on OGF. Quite tempting since they don't just double your bandwidth but also your RAM if you pay bi-annually.

I know that some people had bad experiences with them, especially after last year's BF orders. I'm using Hosthatch for three years now and neither had any outages besides some IPv6 shenanigans courtesy of M247, nor any issues with their support.

1 CPU core (12.5% dedicated, burstable up to 100%)
2 GB RAM
15 GB NVMe
2 TB bandwidth
$2.5 per month, or $20 per year
Pay for 2 years upfront for 2x RAM and 2x bandwidth

Available in: Los Angeles, Stockholm, Madrid, Milan, New York, Warsaw

2 CPU core (50% dedicated, burstable up to 200%)
8 GB RAM
40 GB NVMe
5 TB bandwidth
$5.5 per month, $50 per year
Pay for 2 years upfront for 2x RAM and 2x bandwidth

Available in: Los Angeles, Stockholm, Madrid, Milan, New York, Warsaw

Multiple packages can be stacked.

1x 2.4+ GHz
512 MB RAM
250 GB usable storage
3 TB bandwidth
$18 per year

Available in: Amsterdam, Stockholm, Los Angeles, London and Chicago

These will be available for one week, unless they are extended. If they are sold out, the links will stop working.

They cannot be changed/modified with old VMs. We also offer BGP sessions in all of our locations for customers spending at least $180/year or $25 per month in total account spend.

IPv6 is available in all of our locations.

    goooooooooooooood stuff.

    I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.

    @hosthatch
I'm missing 3 of those locations for my NAT world dominance plan.
Any objections to running a NAT node on any of these locations?

    NAT world dominance plan.

CPU is severely underpowered on these plans.
If you nest 32 containers in the 8GB plan, each container gets 1.6% core.
I wouldn't want to use a NAT container with so little CPU.

IMHO it all boils down to a "don't be a dick"-policy. I use my Hosthatch VPS normally and according to my monitoring I exceed my 12.5% "limit" quite often. Still I have neither got any message from them nor was my VPS suspended.

Reminds me of that old joke.

"A man went to see his doctor and said, "Doctor, every time I move my arm like this it hurts. What do you recommend?" The doctor said, "Don't move your arm like that."

Maybe don't nest 32 containers then?

Not every provider uses the suspension hammer.
Oracle Cloud Free Tier and EUserv VS2-free do not publish any CPU limits.
When I encode push-ups, they just get throttled automatically.

I prefer throttling to suspension hammer, so that I would not get into any hosting trouble if my app suddenly becomes popular (it happened twice so far, with 500+ readers coming in 3 hours).
Nowadays, I set CPU limits on Docker container, so that they can never exceed the limit.

We generally throttle to the dedicated limit as well (but in very extreme cases, because usually there's plenty of free CPU).

I cannot remember when we had to last suspend a customer for this reason.

CPU upgrades to be expected soon (for new plans ofc)?
