sparkfun.com had pi pico in stock last night, limit qty 100 which is a lot. It's cool that the pi foundation is doing this but I wonder if it brings new capabilities that weren't available with the ESP32 and e.g. the Longan Nano, at similar price points to the pi pico. The pi 400 apparently has a rather crappy keyboard and…

Wow this is neat. It's on the large side compared to some alternatives, but it is cheap and capacious and probably uses less power than a similar ESP32 board. Thanks for the alert. There is also of course the Raspberry Pi Zero at $5 that has been around for a while.

I think I'd go for a so-called high endurance sd card. They are made for stuff like dashcams and can supposedly withstand more write/erase cycles. There are also "industrial" cards that I guess are the same idea. Does Ikoula have anything really interesting these days, other than maybe the raspberry pi for some of you? I…

You all realize that keeping the 1gbit/s network saturated 24/7, it will still take about 3 weeks to fill the sx293's hard drives? I think I'd want the 10gbit add-on for it ;). I wonder if more SX61/62's will find their way into the auction pool. I've enjoyed my i7-3770 a lot over the past few years but maybe it is time…

That is ok, just have more users. I'd want around 5TB of storage and that doesn't seem reasonable on the AX51.

Interesting, though the SX292 had hardware raid and the SX293 does not (it is available at extra cost), so the SX292 is not a pure upgrade. The capability boost between the SX133 and SX293 is thus in some sense smaller than from the SX132 to the SX292 was. Still, this is a nice capacity increase I got an email survey from…

Nagios is old school but don't people still use it?

Thanks! $41.20 of cloudflare = somewhere in the area of 2TB a month? Between 1 and 4 anyway. That's a considerable amount of traffic I guess. BunnyCDN will be mostly .01/GB but some regions will cost more. BuyVM anycast might have been an interesting alternative though who knows what it would take to get that working with…

Thanks! Can you tell me the approximate breakdown of this? Particularly Cloudflare. I wouldn't want to pay anything for software (but that's just me) and staging can be done on a fairly crappy VPS unless you want to do load testing, in which case spin up an hourly server for just long enough. I agree that backups can be…

Thanks for this informative post and thread, Ant and everyone. Can I ask why this site's hosting costs $70/month? It's a small to medium web forum, right? I would have hoped it would fit in the low end vision, if not in one of the old tiny NAT vps, then in the proverbial $7/month. Is it the software being slow? DDOS…

I've heard only good things about BunnyCDN and I have some credit with them (which I can donate to LES if you do decide to switch to them), but why do you want to move away from CF? CF is doing some interesting things, like Workers. I've been wanting to code something for that. No really bright ideas though.

Good luck with your budget.

Something wrong with Luxembourg? Heh heh.

Scaleway C2 is unfortunately EOL'd. I think attempts to colo raspberry pi's have never worked very well. They are just not made for that. There are some other such boards that might work better for the purpose. I figure I'll buy a Pi4 or Odroid or whatever board if and when I need such a thing.

I like tape, just wish the drives weren't so expensive. You have to have an awful lot data before the cartridges + drives become equally cost effective to a pile of HDD's.
-
I thought most people use shared hosting for basic wordpress. Is that so terrible? BuyVM has that with a dedicated ipv4 for $8/year. Lots of other places have it cheaper with shared ipv4. If shared ipv4 is ok, then NAT seems worth the slight added complexity if you're trying to go super cheap.

Are these all in Los Angeles?

I have a fairly simple install on a 1gb Vultr kvm with 2 users at most, and it is slower than dog poo. That is with vultr's 1-clock install. I suspect the config is messed up somehow so I will look into it or else do a fresh install on another machine but it does have redis running for caching. I had trouble installing…

Is this at OVH (BHS)? I guess it's fine either way since connectivity to there must be good. I'm thinking of a storage plan that would be supplemental storage to a Kimsufi dedi that I have there.

Is this raw hdd space (no raid) or is there some raid? What level? Thanks.

Love the pic.

Only about 12 amps is really usable on a sustained basis, and 100 watts for the whole server sounds optimistic. Can anyone with more colo experience comment?
-
Interested but why vdedi instead of bare metal? Is HDD available? Is DC access possible for people in the area? This is in Fremont? They have super low rack fees but rather severe power limitations if I remember right: are you sure you have enough amps to run all your boxes simultaneously?

I didn't look at this thread til seeing mention of the drama in cest pit. I can get to my server now.
