It's also the 2 years up front. It would be more interesting month to month, or quarterly or even per 6 months. Otherwise it's a bit scary: am I mistaken or is mxmla a new provider? Having seen a few stalwart LES and LET providers collapse leaving multi-year plan users holding the bag, and another well regarded one…

I'm ok with ipv6 only but pricing is awkward. Too low to be sustainable for seeders who want heavy iops and network. Too high to be attractive for hoarders who sit on piles of cold archives with little outbound traffic.
-
Ah I see, well I have about a zillion idle VPS so I'll just move the site to one of them. Thanks for the explanation. I'm losing millions!!!! Well not really, heh.
-
It is pretty good but it's not like having an 80 core Ryzen if that's what you are thinking. It's maybe about like a 40 core Ryzen. For around the same price you can get two 16 core Ryzen boxes from Hetzner so unless you need everything on 1 box, that may be an ok alternative. Ampere's advantage is in power consumption to…

Interesting, let's see how it goes. They had ARM dedis before using Hardkernel boards if I remember, but those were later phased out. Interesting that FI is the only location available. I guess that is because electricity costs in DE are through the roof now. They usually do DE first. The server chip is impressive,…

Looks like my vpsshared site is down, not responding to pings. It's a super low traffic personal site, so I'll survive, but it sounds like things are probably backlogged there.
-
So far no change on mine, unreachable right now, "node is locked" in client area an hour or so ago.
-
Thanks @Virmach and much sympathy. Maybe you can bring on someone to help with this stuff. I guess I'll just have to wait for the non-Ryzen node to be sorted. My Ryzen VM is reachable and responds on port 22, but the ssh host key changed and I can no longer log into it, which makes it sound as if it's been reinstalled. I…

* I have an older SJC VM that rebooted this morning, stayed up for a while, but has been down most of the day with billing panel saying "the node is currently locked". This VPS is not on a Ryzen node unless it has been migrated (I haven't kept track but I didn't request a migration, figuring I'd wait til the smoke clears).…

I can help out with this if necessary. I modded at LET for a while, as you might remember. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know.

Dropping the ipv4 from a cloud vm saves only 0.6 euro/month? Meh, I guess v4 addresses aren't that scarce after all, or else Hetzner doesn't want people to release too many. I notice the main /cloud page says "INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE STARTING AT € 4.15" but it could be changed to 3.56 reflecting the new v6 option. I think…

I got two emails telling me about the ryzen migrate option. I guess that one of them is for my non-ryzen KVM currently running in SJC. I think I'll wait to migrate that one until the SJC Ryzens are declared stable and working. I'm wondering about the 2nd email. It might just be random, but I have another Virmach BF VPS…

SJCZ2005 is still waiting on new network hardware or something right? It actually seems to be working fine for me right now, though it rebooted about 2 weeks ago. But I don't have any real monitoring watching it.

At least 20-25/hour. Hopefully more, I don't really follow this market. But the # originally mentioned was ridiculous. @Mason can you let this guy answer a few LES tickets or something? @Neoon ? Is @Not_Oles still running metal labs?
-
At least 15 USD/hour, if you are clueful at all about the stuff you mentioned in your first post. Preferably higher. Where is @MikePT? He'd know more about this.
-
Based on the description in your first post I still think you are charging way too little. I look at that number and think "this person must be completely useless, or else they would charge more". That is the reality of all independent tech work. If you want people to take you seriously, increase your rates.
-
It is a matter of supply and demand. If you know what you are doing, you should charge a lot more than the US minimum.
-
What country are you in? Your asking rate is way way way too low, even for LES.
-
Is mxroute ok for this?
-
Not wordpress but I've been involved with a dual production stack with BGP failover. To upgrade software, you would take the secondary server offline, update, it, bring it back online, then unplug the primary so you'd fail over to the new code. If something went wrong you could revert almost instantly. If it went ok, you'd…

A wise decision. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Shrug, in the low end world, if the seller does their best, that's about all we can hope for, even if they don't always succeed. There have been many deadpools here and there will be many more. Virmach is holding up ok as far as I can tell. You are complaining that since your expectations don't match reality, it must be…
-
Yeah that's called cascading failures. Lingering tech issues => high ticket load => slow ticket response => more whiny users and even more tickets, self-amplifying spiral. Users who have been around for a while have seen this before and look at it contextually. If it happens at AWS then criticism is justified. With a…

I'm happy with Virmach. Their stuff basically works and is super cheap. With this new service they maybe got a little too ambitious and the bugs are not out of it yet, but they are putting in good effort to hold things together. That's the most I can expect with this ultra low end stuff. There are more expensive services…
-
@vgood , these servers are a terrific value for personal and knockaround usage, but it will be a while (maybe forever) before they are really stable. With no dig intended at Virmach, if you are using them for "production", you are crazy. This is the lowest of the low end. If they are all your business can afford, you don't…
-
Afaict we are unlikely to see 72F3 at the low end. They are expensive and power hungry cpu's whose main purpose is to get the most value from expensive "enterprise" software that is licensed per core. They are a win if the added hardware and power expenditures are less than the license savings. But in the low end world, we…

Old thread but it's hard to beat Hetzner Storage box for hassle avoidance at affordable cost (about €2 per TiB/month = $2 per 1e12 bytes/month since that's how HDD capacity is stated). HDD's at home have IME been horribly unreliable, especially when not kept spinning (i.e. keep drive in drawer for a year = failure on…

Yeah SJC2005 having trouble from here too. Older SJKVM2 is doing fine.
-
It says special right in the name. Of course it is different. It is special, after all.
-
But it was so slow it was near unusable, right? Plus it required some kind of windows or phone app, iirc. Using it as general purpose storage was a big pain.
-
A mistake in provisioning caused more than normal number of VMs deployed on a single node for this offer, resulting in performance difference. More likely you have some users hogging resources, e.g. mining. You need some kind of throttling with reasonable limits.

It could be useful as a logging device if it had an erase feature that couldn't be activated through the normal computer port. I've sometimes wanted something like that for audit purposes.
