I was able to order a 2TB Los Angeles Hosthatch KVM at $55/year and it is still orderable, though mine is not yet provisioned so there might be a snag (will see by tomorrow I guess). https://manage.hosthatch.com/billing/order/storlax-2tb

For personal stuff either just a TODO text file or an org-mode file. At work I see all kinds of churn through these tools, and leaky migration from one to another, so you end up having to look through a bunch of different ones every day. I think it's more important to pick one tool and stick with it, than fuss too much…

Use sar to look at the cpu history. You may have to enable some logging for that--see the man page.

Both my services now involucrated and I have €64.70 EUR in HS junk bonds credit. Interesting. I hadn't checked this before.

All the cheap Donuts domains (.party and so on) went up a few months ago. They are still fairly cheap but no longer such throwaways as before.

Thanks Katie. I personally have more interest in v6-only than vlan-only, but vlan-only has value for systems made of multiple services, since decreasing the attack surface (eliminating internet access to backend components) is always good for security. Of course you can do almost as well by shutting off the (virtual)…

Heh, I think I know who you mean by that. Nice observation. ISTM that if you want a short term failover IP without paying a big setup fee, one way to do it is spin up a CX11 even at the increased monthly rate, and proxy through it to wherever. This even lets you get rid of the ipv4 on the target server, if it becomes…

you can move them around easily the serverboerse most likely will have more hardware and maybe a price drop I'm wondering why the failover ip's will be more expensive than the regular ones. Is there some technical reason for that, or is it because of how they are used? I guess it would be tempting for people to hoard them,…

Thanks, Katie. The FAQ is written from a perspective of realism, which is always a good thing. Reading between the lines, though, it seems like the cloud product was designed to be ipv4-dependent and that fixing this will be difficult. I have to think that was an avoidable error since ipv4 depletion has been predicted for…

What's the difference between a regular IP and a failover one, that makes the failover ones much more expensive? Is it not just some internal routing inside Hetzner? Will the cost of dedicated and auction servers go up in sync with these IP setup fees? I really wouldn't mind giving up the ipv4 from my dedi (keeping the v6)…

@Hetzner_OL how about offering cloud instances with no ipv4 (i.e. v6 only)? I'd use that, for backend services and so on. Scaleway even has (or had) them with no internet, i.e. internal network only. I probably wouldn't use that myself but I can see some applications for it. Right now I have one cloud instance active for a…

Nobody remembers Yggdrasil.

My openvz storage vps worked til a few days ago, then stopped. The kvm one stopped some weeks ago.

Thanks, I wonder if the proxmox issue stops me from seeing that:
-
I'm back in the client area but don't see a separate control panel, checked all my emails for it, don't see a way to reboot from client area, and there is an error box " Action Failed Proxmox API Error: Login to vel6 Host failed. " sounding like some backend thing isn't working, sigh.
-
Very interesting, thanks! Umm I'm looking through old emails from HS and don't see how to VNC in or reach their solusvm assuming they have one. And their client area seems to have just crashed (I was clicking around it trying to find server management). Will try again later I guess.

My VPS is still offline fwiw (183.213.49.x).
-
My storage vps that was up yesterday, now not responding.
-
My openvz storage vps is still up if anyone cares.
-
Yeah my 1tb openvz is working. Uptime 77 days.

If you want a wiki, gitit is very simple to install ("apt-get install gitit"). Its backend is git which is not exactly flat files but is familiar to programmers.
